Re: Man Killed by Train While Looking at Lottery Ticket
LACKAWANNA, N.Y. '” A man is dead after being struck and killed by a train near Buffalo while examining a scratch-off lottery ticket.
Police say 48-year-old Ronald Wittenberg of Lackawanna did not respond to the train's blaring horn as it approached him from behind as he walked between the rails.
Wittenberg was returning from fishing with a friend shortly after 7 p.m. Thursday. Police were told he had his head down and was examining the lottery ticket.
Wittenberg died from massive head and internal injuries, police said.

Jesus. How in the fuck can you not hear a train coming?? Even if you were deaf, you would feel the vibrations on the tracks long before the train ever hit you.
They should consider the possibility this was a suicide.

It looks that way, but the lottery ticket thing is a curve ball. Wouldn't it be ironic if he had the winning ticket?
That would be my kinda luck.

Wow... I know trains can be really silent if you're right out in front of them and looking away, but with the horn going, you'd think he would've noticed it.

Yeah, that is odd. There's a biking trail I ride sometimes that joins (well runs horizontal at a point) a railroad track and you can definitely be taken by surprise at how silent a train can come up on you but the horn is L O U D! Odd at best.
