Dog Eat Dog is my fave album and one of my fave albums of the 90's. April 2031, Andy Warhol, bitter pill, Let it Rain... Amazing songs.

Music is subjective obviously and everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I always laugh when I see that statement and yeah I've seen/heard it quite a few times over the years. Metal Sludge is littered with people who say that was the masterpiece of the 90s.

I'd loved to have smoked, snorted, or shot up whatever it was you Warrant fans were taking then.

The early-mid 90s is just a landscape of musical masterpieces and I just cant imagine listing that album in that category. No offense.  I know Russ is a HUGE fan of those later Warrant albums so you're not alone here in your opinion.

Other than Dog Eat Dog, Bon Jovi, and RHCP, what are your other fave albums from that decade? Just curious what the litmus test is here. Don't include GNR for obvious reasons. I kinda have a feeling you like them. 16

Prince Diamonds and Pearls/Love Symbol Album/Gold Experience/Emancipation

Shotgun Messiah Second Coming

Slave to the Grind

Michael Jackson Dangerous

Nirvana Nevermind/In Utero/MTV Unplugged

2pac All Eyes On Me

Dr Dre The Chronic

Garth Brooks No Fences,Ropin the Wind

All those great 90's country albums from Dwight Yoakam,Alan Jackson,Tracy Lawrence

NIN The Fragile

Eminem Slim Shady LP

Wu Tang Clan 36 Chambers

Ice T Original Gangsta

Just off the top of my head  back then it was everything Prince for the most part though.

STP Core/Purple

Liked Korn's first few albums

Kiss Revenge

1994/95 ?

Dog Eat Dog was much earlier, dare I say 91? The tunes I played for you from UltraPhobic and Belly 2 Belly were from the 94-97 era I think.

That would explain why Bitter Pill still had that 'hair' sound. All the ballad bands were still cutting that music in 91, and it seeped into 92, but it was dead as hell by that point.

It's cliche today, but of course -- when Smells Like Teen Spirit dropped, and MTV shifted focus to pushing grunge, it was all over.

In 91 all the cool kids were wanting to be Axl Rose but 6 months later they were all dressing in flannel. I hate that frontrunner shit. I like what I like and I have never apologized for it. Grunge was way worse than Hair Metal after the 4 or 5 really great bands.

one of my friends in high school... we use to trade Bon Jovi tapes and discuss them etc... When Nirvana hit, I asked him if he had heard their new album "Keep The Faith" and he was like... They suck, they are gay... motherfucker u loved them 2 years ago.......

I hate that. MTV/RollingStone no body dictates to me what is cool, what is great and what i should listen to. I like what i like and what moves me and what makes me feel something. never was interested in being cool.

Some of the knockoff grunge band's were downright unlistenable.

While some of those grunge albums were amazing, I do agree that MTV forced that movement. Always rubbed me the wrong way but some of those bands could back up the hype so in the end it didn't matter.

Cornell and Cobain(the two "leaders" of grunge) despised the movement even though it was making them both rich. Said it became a parody of itself the moment it went mainstream and went against everything it initially stood for and I agree.

When preppies are buying 50 cent flannels at thrift stores to fit in, it's no longer a movement or a statement. It's just a product being bought and sold to the masses.

Yes it was. The Soundgarden song Karaoke is about all those bullshit bands. Other than LES Artistes, my favorite anti poseur song.

D, since you obviously weren't a grunge fan, check out this song. It's killer but never really caught on. If you hate it don't bother diving into their discog because it's their best song hands down.

I agree with Neemo. I was young, but alot of the guys around me that were very impressionable on me... were already "grunge" before grunge knew what grunge was years before it caught on.

I can remember many of conversations of some long-haired and bearded, rocker/country-outlaw-ish family members sitting around campfires joking about how "if they ever knew that flannels and ripped jeans were gonna become a fashion statement, they'd of cashed in years ago", including the women.

Not much has changed, other than maybe the haircuts. I still wear flannels/chamois, jeans n' boots quite often. Grunge ain't dead yet.

You bring up a good point. I don't know if they've already been asked... but i've always wondered, had Staley & Vedder (as frontmen) known the watered-down, streamlined rock that would get spawned from AIC & PJ's natural, organic, unique melodic grunge sound... would wind up pigeonholing rock until this very day...

Would they ever wanted to fucking bother?

Hmm, a very grunge philosophic question to ask.

Everytime I hear a vocalist mimic Staley or a band rip off Pearl Jam melodies, I just want to turn it off and put on an actual AIC or PJ record.

I like that song. FIrst time ive heard it but I'd def give it repeat spins

I liked some grunge. absolutely Loved Nirvana more than life itself.. my fandom def hasn't held up through the years.. still like them but a lot of what happened after Kurt committed suicide turned me off a lot towards it.

STP not sure is considered "Grunge' but one of my all time faves

I've never been a big Soundgarden/AIC fan but I appreciate their greatness and understand why so many love them.

Pearl Jam.. Their songs I either love or hate.. no in between with Pearl Jam, the songs I like are all time great or pure shit to my ears.. no just ok.. its def boom or bust. the ones i love.. i have a deep connection to.

A band I absolutely hate is smashing Pumpkins.. I can tolerate Corgan for a song or two but is absolute torturous trying to make it through a complete album for me.

U guys also have no clue my love and fandom for Prince that lives onto this day... When i was in High School, I painted my car purple and had a Gold Prince symbol on the hood. no BS. I discovered him right as Grunge was hitting and the time I went through his entire catalog/new stuff, grunge was over and I never got into it.

I thought I liked Smashing Pumpkins, based off their early radio hits.  So I bought Melancholy and the Infinite Sadness, and it was the biggest piece of crap I've ever listened to.  There were like 3 good songs out of 28 or whatever it was.  Not a good ratio.
