I already have too many guitars for someone that hardly ever plays, but I will get a mockingbird eventually...

The Mockingbird is miles more beautiful than the Explorer and I've been aching for one for a while now...

I'd go for something like this - but without the floyd-rose - as I believe you need the stringers (black pieces of wood in the body) in there to be visible: 360265636_tp.jpg

I've played one and they're a joy to play. They do have a fairly wide fretboard, which I like but is something you need to get used to. I did not like the pick-ups on them though (played one with the Rockfield Mafia pups), they sound muddy & boomy as hell so spare some budget to replace those.

In the end, there's only two guitar shapes that are truly beautiful: the Les Paul and the Mockingbird (Telecasters can look nice too, but it's too dependent on the finish).

In the end, as I needed a guitar with a tune-o-matic type bridge, I opted for this little bad boy (roughly same price range as the Mockingbird, but much higher quality guitar). It looks even better in real life:

Looks more edgy than a Les Paul, without going overboard.

The MockingBird Special, the Mockingbird Pro X Hardtail, Mockingbird Special X and the Mockingbird Archtop all have set necks and tune o matic bridges...the Pro X Hardtail has EMG pickups (81 and 60)

my opinion on the lp shaped guitars is that if i want an LP shaped guitar i'll get a LP...albiet it would be an epiphone lol

I voted for the Explorer, even though that's a tough guitar to pull off unless you're James Hetfield or Dave Grohl.

It just looks more bad ass to me than a Mockingbird does.

went down to the guitar shop this morning and played 3 guitars

Epiphone Les Paul Studio - Played pretty much like my Epi LP Standard seemed a bit chunkier though for some reason...neck didnt seem as fast and the action on it seemed really high compared to my standard

Epiphone '58 Goth Explorer - was really good guitar...seemed fast, slim tapered neck was nice, action was perfect, had a good weight to it, and sounded good on the same amp that i own

Mockingbird Platinum Series - played like a strat to me, the epiphone jsut felt and sounded better to me...and even the clean tone didnt sound clean for some reason...dunno maybe its just a guitar better suited to a randall or mesa boogie amp instead of a marshall? granted it is an entry level guitar and the other two i played are not so maybe it wasnt a faiir comparision? but ther arent any BC Rich dealers close to me...my buddy swears on the Mockingbird St that he owns (which is basically the mockingbrid that slash uses in the YCBM video)

I've got the Mockingbird Special X and it's a great guitar.  It isn't fair to compare a beginner guitar to some mid level ones.  Of course the others are gonna sound better!

i should probably qualify my statement

i played the Dean ML79 with a floyd Rose ($940) breifely...and i didnt plug it in...felt like an awesome guitar...set neck , mahogony with maple topnnice heft but since the price tag was realll high i didnt go too far with it 16

on the other hand the dean ML-XM (MSRP $295) Paulownia body (whatever the hell that is),  Bolt on Maple neck .... felt like a cheap peice of crap
