When I first read that post over on HTGTH they made it sound like he was predicting a Christmas time release date. But after thinking about it, and reading the tweet from GNRnews, it certainly sounds like he was just joking about them putting out a Christmas album. Obviously that won't happen. So it's an obvious joke.

Agreed, ALOT OF THIS comes across as DJ just being a newbie to the whole thing.
He seems to be ignorant to the process, and making the same rookie mistakes that Richard, Tommy, Dizzy & Brain made over the years. "Yeah we're working on like 14 songs", "99% complete", "finishing touches", "yeah it should be out by Thanksgiving 2003"... then they went dark. Because they realized it was going nowhere.
I'm not saying GN'R couldn't be working on stuff, i'm just saying that DJ is used to Nikki & Motley's way of getting stuff done. You write it, cut it, spit-shine it, release it, all done within a year or so.
He has NO CLUE what he's in for with Axl. Even now.
They could write a full song, record a completely finished version, then watch Axl shove it in a vault for years.
The only thing that I HOPE might be the exception in this case, is Axl has a band full of functioning members (except for himself), and they're hungry, fresh, and Axl seems to like being around them.
That MIGHT expedite a new Guns album, but wishing for that... well... you might as well think a reunion is around the corner. They're the same shooting star you're trying to catch with a lasso.

I totally see your logic - but large parts if not all of Chinese 2 are already recorded..and while they had the 99 demos - i think the first few years at the turn of the centuary were spent writing and stuff - so I'd liken this process to when bumble joined the band - went on tour in 2006, then 2007 was full of silence then 2008 the album came out....so if ashba is adding parts now we could maybe hope for a late 2012 or mid 2013.
But maybe i'll be wrong...just saying I think a lot of the resons for the CD delays are gone now.

I'm sure DJ understands the delays....after all he works with Nikki Sixx in between Crue, Sixx Sense, Books etc etc... apparently they finished writing This is Gonna Hurt in Mid-2009 and it's just seeing the light of day now

things are different now:
-the lineup is stable (you don't have an unpredictable buckethead type in the band any more and azoff/reunion rumors won't be chasing ashba out like they did, finck. also, everyone in the band is comfortable doing their own projects alongside the ebbs and flows of gnr).
-artistically and bussiness-wise, there's far less expectations and pressure on axl to release a masterpeiece this time around. he doesn't need to. a stripped down album will be better received by the fans and should sell comaprably to cd 1 if it is available everywhere.
-they have material ready to release - cd was a leaks album and it did not cost 14 million to record 14 songs. my guess is those studio fees he racked up over the years got paid off with the best buy deal so any reworked vault songs are almost cost free to hand over.

First time he said it I tought. Dj is just new to this. Second time I thought, Axl will be getting pissed now, and shut him up. Third time he said it I thought, oh shit. GNR are recording a new album!
Remember that leak last year of a studio version of DJ's Ballad of death? (which by the way is a beautiful song)
My skepticism is giving way to hope.
