My only worry is with Ashba written material. I don't really care for any material he's written with those other bands, but I like his take on covering Robin's work, who, imo, his contributions to GNR were fantastic; Better, TWAT, TIL, IRS, etc.

Well sounds like good news to me.
It could have been the case that the band was on hiatus at the moment until Rock in Rio, but this makes it sound like DJ is involved working up material - given the rest of the band doesn't seem very active on GNR stuff - I'd guess he's adding his parts to existing recordings.
It's utter speculation, but I figure give that process like 6 months, then we'll have Rio - and you'd guess maybe some kind of other shows around it. Then probably a good six months of mixing, prepping stuff - which knowing GNR will extend to another 6 months - especially if there was a tour - and so I'd say we'd be on track for an album to come out mid 2013.
Well I should put my crystal ball away and go back to the tarrot cards.
