Re: Dj Says working new GnR songs ! :Ashba Black Carpet Interview

Good to know they are working on new music. However as we know it's a leap of biblical proportions to go from 'recording new GNR material' to 'releasing new GNR material'. As I said it's good to know they are writing/recording but I won't hold my breath on us ever hearing it.

the problem with ron/dj/axl getting flamed is - why don't they just tell the truth? (tho then of course they'd get it for being truthful)

Personally I think they do.

Ron's been very honest in the past that he wants to get together as a complete group and write brand new songs but that it's not happening. It's been obvious from a few interviews he's done that it's quite frustrating. He's also been quite blunt in the past pointing out that it isn't up to him to announce shows/releases , that he's seperate from the business end of it and that he himself finds the uncertanty and waits frustrating. That's more truthful than most people would be.

As for DJ. There is no reason AT ALL to think he is lying here. It seems a no brainer that the next move for GNR might be to add DJ to the existing un-used CD tracks - and he's a pro musician and so probably has a few riffs lying around to show Axl. Doing either of those things counts as "working on new music" to us - it's not like he said there would be 3 albums out by next summer.

Then there's Axl. Axl's perspective and choice of words is often different from other people's but I don't think he's lying - I think he believes what he says to be the truth, it's just that sometimes to others the view is a little different. Likewise it seems things change in GNR, and I'd venture to suggest mood and emotions can be part of it. So perhaps the times he's talked of tours that never happened or album releases that didn't eventuate - those plans were true at the time he said it - but then things either fell through or he changed his mind about bits etc.

So yeah, i really don't understand the fan reaction here. I mean I wouldn't take this to mean that anything will happen soon - as we all know it's a long way to finished products for GNR - but i really don't see a reason to think it's a lie, or that it's in anyway bad. It's what needs to happen if we want a new product one day - so i see it as great news.

I dont believe him either, and I really dont want to be sceptical, but I've been made this way after so many years of let downs.
But whatever, I'm caring less and less, this band has no direction or purpose and only new music can reinvigorate anyone who has had an inkling of interest in GNR in the last few years.

DJ killed any momentum in that statement as soon as he started pimping Ashba Swag. Just calling it 'Swag' alone, douches the whole thing up and kills any possible business I might give him. GD does he self-promote alot. He's almost as bad as Donald Trump.

I like it. New GNR fans bitch constantly about Slash being a "media whore". So Axl hires the media whore of all media whores and people think it's the greatest thing since sliced bread.

His addition to the band was worth it for comedy value alone.

Meanwhile no doubt he works on riffs and stuff himself that at some stage he might like to throw past Axl - when GNR gets through it's unreleased back cataloge.

As far as new music goes regarding Ashba, you can pretty much guarantee that Sixx AM and Motley Crue have first and second dibs on that material.

bunch of pussy ranting here.

if dj said the album was coming out in september followed immediately by a tour would we believe him any ways?

no, because he's not the record label or management.

everyone stop bitching and calling people liars.

he's says he's working on music every day and is hinting at a tour in the future. if another tour doesn't happen, i'll be stunned and musicians work on music all the time, regardless of release plans. very non comittal there.

If anything he's just gettinjg off on spreading a little hope. it feels good to be the bearer of good news ........

and hope is all we have as gnr fans

Exactly the way I see it.  DJ saying something positive doesn't have to be met with, "shut up.  You suck.  It will never happen.  You're a god damn liar!"

I doubt he's lying.  I doubt he was lying back when he said a February US tour was in the works.  Do you honestly think he just throws out arbitrary information just for the hell of it out of thin air without any truth at all to it?  I'd find that hard to believe.

Now I understand this isn't anything to get TOO excited about.  I'm not calling for all remaining GNR fans to start scheduling listening parties for the new CD or anything.  Just the fact that DJ (or anyone) said, something, anything about GNR at the moment is a good thing from where I'm sitting.  I'd be far more upset if he was interviewed and he went on and on about SixxAM and Motley Crue, and didn't give a single mention about GNR.  That would worry me a little.

Also, the statement "working on new music" is kind of broad.  Could mean many things.  Could mean the whole band has gotten together and has worked on NEW material from scratch, not CD era stuff.  That in my mind, is highly unlikely.  It's probably as most suspect, that they're putting their own touches on the songs remaining in the vault.  It also could potentially mean that they're working on "new" songs to play live, as in new to THEM, not necessarily to us.  Although again, I don't think that's a likely scenario either.

It's also going to be more post-grunge styled. Not that that's a bad thing, but no one is really clear tbh on what Axl's musical direction is for the next album.

AFD was Aerosmith-style sleaze rock

Lies was acoustic/stripped down

UYI was Stones-style blues/country rock

CD was industrial meets Beatles/Queen-style rock

If you notice each and every GN'R album takes a different direction. Despite having a vault full of Bucket & Robin-stuff, just because they recorded it, doesn't mean the tracks don't take a different direction.

The next album could be anything from country to Nickleback to Silkworms. Who the hell knows...

I believe Axl when he says if you didn't like CD you won't like the next one. I'd like to see it take a more Sorry/Catcher type of vibe.
