Re: Neemo's Two Cents
Stone Sour - Audio Secrecy (2010)
So where do I begin? ... I guess first off I'll start with slip knot as that is Cory Taylor's professional beginnings as a vocalist. I must admit that i was turned off slip knot in the beginning of their career, I felt they were trying to cash in on an image initally made popular by Alice Cooper and Kiss, and later elaborated on by Wes Borland of Limp Bizkit (yes i am a fan of Wes Borland...sue me) so anyway I dismissed Slip Knot without even really giving them half a chance. As for Stone Sour I first heard of them when Bother came out as a single in 2002 it piqued my interest, but I never really followed up on it...over the past 8 years or so they have had a handful of singles and that was basically my exposure to them ... after Through Glass i was interested enough that I really wanted to check them out but again I didnt follow through. Fast forward to 2011 ... I love the single, Say You'll Haunt Me....its fucking fantastic...that coupled with the Velvet Revolver rumors I finally broke down and got my hands on a copy of Audio Secrecy, Stone Sour's 3rd album.
The album starts with an eerie grinding piano peice and moves into a couple kick ass rocking tunes...follwing that is Say You'll Haunt Me. after that it loses a little momentum and it kind of ebbs and flows the rest of the way. some times with little gems other times you cant wait for the song to get on with it.
I have to say that I was very impressed by what Audio Secrecy has to offer, its a very solid album and has become one of my current favorites. There are some very rocking tracks and Cory has the ability to kick your ass with some serious metal vocal chops, or he can sooth you with some melodic singing. the single alone shows his diversity nice melody in the verses with almost gutteral screaming in the chorus. if you are a fan of mainstream rock and like stuff a bit on the heavy side then seriously check this album out. be warne though i could see stone sour as being a gate way to heavier bands...like for instance i'm seriously thinking that maybe i should go check out slipknot.
I'll give it a 9 Les Pauls outta 10 .. a must have IMHO
