Re: Chinese Democracy UNDER 300,000 copies sold first week?

GUNS N' ROSES' new album, "Chinese Democracy", has registered the following first-week chart positions so far (Note: The album wasn't available a full week in most of these territories when the charts were compiled):
Finland: #1
Ireland: #3
Netherlands: #4
Sweden: #4
Early U.S. sales reports suggest that "Chinese Democracy", which was released through an exclusive deal with the Best Buy chain, might not be the blockbuster the industry had hoped for, according to The New York Times. Sales figures will not be available until next week, but early estimates put the first-week total at 300,000 copies (including a reported 25,000 downloads at iTunes on November 23 not counted towards the opening week for the Sunday release) — roughly 50,000 more than the opening number registered by "Contraband", the 2004 debut from VELVET REVOLVER, which features in its ranks Rose's former GUNS N' ROSES bandmates Slash, Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum. KANYE WEST's new album, "808s and Heartbreak", will be No. 1 on next week's Billboard chart with a total that looks to be between 450,000 and 500,000.

It'll be interesting to see how does here in the UK, supposedly early reports (Tuesday) showed the Killers were winning the battle for no.1 by about 20,000.

Re: Chinese Democracy UNDER 300,000 copies sold first week?
The next couple of week's sales will be what I am REALLY interested in. The exclusive Best Buy deal was a bad idea from the beginning. In many ways however that's not that bad of a showing. Was Contraband a one-chain exclusive? Is Kanye competing on the same playing ground? No, it will be the next few weeks that really tell us how successful (or not) Chinese Democracy really will be. The fact it sold 50k more than Contraband would only be disappointing (imo) if it were not for the Best Buy exclusive release crap.

Not as good as most had hoped, though those hopes were probably a little un-realistic. But it certainly doesnt seem to flop considering it was a store exclusive, and that store happens to be one that isnt in every town. Not bad at all.

Well the album would sell better if Axl actually did some promo.

Wow, Axl can't even win over Europe.
He's in T-R-O-U-B-L-E
Europe was his last line of defense of acceptance.
That's what I was thinking. Europe was always willing to love any GnR that showed up. This isn't good...
