Re: Female Prison Employees Charged with Raping Inmates
GOUVERNEUR, N.Y. (AP) -- State police have arrested two female civilian employees at a state prison in northern New York and charged them with raping several male inmates.
Laura Douglass of Potsdam faces charges of third-degree rape, third-degree criminal sexual act, and first-degree promoting prison contraband. Lisa Vaughn of Carthage is charged with third-degree rape, third-degree criminal sexual act, official misconduct, and second-degree promoting prison contraband.
The 38-year-old Douglass worked in the commissary at Gouverneur Correctional Facility and 41-one-year-old Vaughn was laundry supervisor.
Investigators say both women face rape charges because under state law, inmates are incapable of giving consent.
