Good call on Motley Crue tyler! That Crue album is musically superior to any other album they ever did. I love Uncle Jack as well, I think Smoke the Sky and Misunderstood are excellent too.
My list:
Dirt OR Jar of Flies - Alice in Chains (nothing sounded like either GREAT album)
Rust in Peace OR Youthanasia - Megadeth (intelligent and heavy also well produced)
Slave to the Grind - Skid Row (perfect rock album)
Metallica - Black Album (although a bit commercial a perfect album)
Nirvana - Nevermind (really popularized the grunge movement)
Soundgarden - Badmotorfinger (Soundgarden at their best)
Ozzy - No More Tears (after years in rock he manages his BEST album yet)
Pearl Jam - Ten (the next Mother Love Bone album that "could have been")
Live - Throwing Copper (R.E.M. on steroids)
Singles Soundtrack - (a time capsule to the music of the 90's)
The Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness (their shining moment)
NIN - The Downward Spiral (great writing, excellent production)
Pantera - Cowboys From Hell (a new level of heaviness)

It was said already but I gotta second U2 Achtung Baby. Almost every song on that album can be released as a single today & no one would question it or say it's dated. Siamese Dream is a good mention also. Not really a 'great' album or anything but I don't think Matchbox 20's first album has gotten "dated".. Songs like Push & 3am could probably be released today.
How about Weezers Blue album, because it sounds exactly like every other Weezer album

i won't pass judgement.. but we may wanna give that a couple o' more years...here's one i may catch some shit for:
Motley Crue-Motley Crue...
the one record without vince neil carved a nice little spot in my permanent playlist...
I think it never really got the credit it deserved for being the heaviest and most diverse(by far) motley record ever... it truly was a testament to their diversity..
There were dark moments..."uncle Jack"..."til death.."... and tender moments.."loveshine" "drift away"... and even a track that vince coulda sung and it woulda been able to hang with Dr feelgood... "poison apples".. it never got a fair shake because of the corabi thing, which is a shame, because he's such a versitile vocalist.. they coulda done ANYTHING after this record, and they caved to the reunion pressure...in all honesty, they shoulda never called it motley crue...oops.. kinda sounds familiar
As I said earlier I totally agree on the Motley Crue album. The Quarternary sessions and unreleased songs from that Motley Crue album have some good tunes as well!

I can't tell if that's a joke or not, and if it isn't could you explain?
If I come off kinda like an ass for asking like that, sorry, but I don't understand that one at all and I'd seriously like to know why you think that. If you like it fine, to each thier own. But timeless...
A few people already mentioned Jar Of Flies, those songs could have been released as early as the seventies, or now and not sounded out of place at all.
A lot of good ones have been mentioned, I do think Foo Fighters The Colour and The Shape should go on the list.

A few I've seen posted I agree with and disagree with.
Rage Against the Machine I do agree with - albums tend to sound dated when they use synths and computers and technology of the time. RATM's self-titled debut is guitar, bass, drums, and vocal. Awesome record.
Blind Melon's S/T is phenomenal, but the only reason I'd call it timeless is that it doesn't sound like the early 90s scene. It's a misfit and a good one, and if that makes it timeless, alright.
I love Alice in Chains, and while the production is still good and the music is still awesome, it does sound like Seattle and the early 90s to me. Maybe the acoustic stuff (SAP, Jar of Flies) is not dated, but when I hear 'I Stay Away' I hear early 90s grunge. Just really good grunge.
Smashing Pumpkins was mentioned but not 'Siamese Dream' I don't think. I'd say that's there best shot at timelessness.

Alice in Chains- Dirt
Rob Zombie- The Sinister Urge
Stone Temple Pilots- Shangri-La Dee Da
I pick Shangri-La Dee Da for similar reasons to why i picked Down on the Upside. Both those albums were the best albums by those bands, and they were the farthest away from the 'sound' that made them famous. Neither one is even close to a grunge album.
Those albums kick the shit out of most of what's been released this year.

More Of a Joke since in the video that has patton saying they sound dated he goes on to say he's fixing to start work on 60s style Italian pop(or something like that).
Just seemed really hypocritical to me. Patton is amazing but concieted IMO.
And although it does sound 70s ish. I love the Wolfmother album.
