I know. If he's thinking about forming this council... shouldn't he let people know what they do?
Just a thought really.
In such early stages that's not really important. When he is President, when it is formed, then it's function can be clearly defined for the people.
I don't see why this is a good or a bad thing, or even a thing at all.

We can 'get off foreign oil' without increasing the size of government.
The liberal utopia is now here. We've just entered the era where a broke government is going to solve all your problems by increasing to the size of the Milky Way.
I don't, however, like how it takes some power & oversight away from the EPA. I think there should be 1 Environmental/Energy group, not multiple with various self interests. Who knows though.
Agree 100%. All this will do besides add to the size of government and increase taxes is dilute the power of the EPA and make all affiliated programs worthless.
And ultimately clogging research and developing of new energy sources even more.
No, you certainly don't need more government to get off foreign oil.
The effective way would be to give tax breaks to companies developing and delievering alternative energy sources. Installing the technology in government operations is also an idea. Simply showing that you're for real and not just another Gore hypocrit.
Most tragic part is that this technology hardly need developing. Today it's fully possible and feasible to have the whole earth run on renewable energy. We just won't do it. The oil industry would kill before letting anything like that happen, and the government is shaking in its pants on the prospect of losing all that tax money.
What we're getting are superflous departments spending tax payer money to talk, debate and analyse the problem, all the while never actually doing anything about it apart from diluting the focus.

It's going to be debated and speculated to hell though.
I would like the function to be clearly defined for everyone before this is formed. That's just me though.

When I was in college, it was fun to point and roll my eyes at the devout marxist in his Che shirt. Now I realize that if I have children and assuming they share my beliefs, they'll be mocked and laughed at for supporting individualism and property rights.

I guess you lack a basic understanding of Marx's theory? Minimum wage, unions and economic regulation all stem from Marx.
