Re: Obama considers new Energy Security Council
Barack Obama is seriously considering the creation of an Energy Security Council within the White House, according to sources close to the transition.
President-elect Obama and his staff are examining a white paper written by former President Bill Clinton’s chief of staff, John Podesta, who is heading up the Obama transition, the sources said.
The outline details how the committee would be formed, the sources said, and addresses how power would be balanced between a new National Energy Council and other White House entities, particularly the Council on Environmental Quality, which now oversees federal agency implementation of environmental policy.
A key Obama aide would not confirm the likelihood of a new council, but some sources suggested Podesta might be eyeing the post for himself.
Podesta, however, has e-mailed his staff at the Center for American Progress, where he is CEO, that he will not be joining the Obama administration after the transition.
Another possibility to head the council is Carol Browner, an administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency in the Clinton administration who’s now playing a key role on Obama’s transition team.
During the campaign, there was talk that Obama would consider naming some sort of White House “energy czar,” and this new council could be part of such a move.
“U.S. energy policy could benefit from coordination that considers cross-cutting environmental and supply issues,” said Scott Segal, director of the Electric Reliability Coordinating Council. “But the devil is in the details. A council that is staffed by members with too many preconceived notions could overly restrict energy supply and drive up prices.”
Some other lobbyists worry, too, that such a new council might overshadow the EPA and the Energy Department by decreasing their direct contact with the president.

Read that entire article, and it didn't say a damn thing of what they'd do.
*shrugs shoulders* (umm okay)
I know. If he's thinking about forming this council... shouldn't he let people know what they do?
Just a thought really.
Re: Obama considers new Energy Security Council
I really hope it's not something to turn around and cry about global warming. Seriously.
The global temperature last year was the lowest it's been in 10 years. Global warming is no different than Sars, Y2K... hell traced all the way back to the Peace & Love Party.
It's a commercial entity designed to sell dupes like Al Gore into spending money on tapes & T-shirts. It's a racket.
I just hope Obama doesn't go all Nancy Pelosi on us with energy. If that happens i'll want to impeach the bastard.

warming has all but killed off the ice caps.. guess what happens when all that water enters the oceans.. it cools down the gulf stream and everything else... that changes everything.
why do people think global warming means we have nice hot weather..

You wanna know what they'll do? They'll hire twenty thousand beaureaucrats who'll twiddle their thumbs for years while collecting paychecks that come out of your wallet.
The fact this is the first initiative proposed is a telling sign of what's coming in the next four years. Governments from federal down to county are financially broke, and his solution to that is to increase its size.
I look forward to more of this "change".
Re: Obama considers new Energy Security Council
Considering how it's the Energy "Security Council" I imagine it has more to do with getting off foriegn oil, & looking more towards new energies. I don't, however, like how it takes some power & oversight away from the EPA. I think there should be 1 Environmental/Energy group, not multiple with various self interests. Who knows though.

We can 'get off foreign oil' without increasing the size of government.
The liberal utopia is now here. We've just entered the era where a broke government is going to solve all your problems by increasing to the size of the Milky Way.

Agree 100%. All this will do besides add to the size of government and increase taxes is dilute the power of the EPA and make all affiliated programs worthless.
