Re: Palin flunks mock debates

Considering Obama is estimated to have an IQ around 140 and graduated from Harvard Law, I'd say it's pretty cut and dry that he is a smart man.  Biden was elected to the Senate before he was legally allowed to take office and has remained there.  You don't stay in Politics long unless you're savy and able to think on your feet- both indicators of intelligence.

The fact that they're educated is even more reason to respect their positions.  It shows that they're well read and presumably able to entertain an idea without embracing it.

I've been reading various GNR-related forums over the last six years, and, I have to say, that's probably the most classless comment that I've ever come across. In fact, I was going to point it out last night, but was sure that one of the moderators would delete it within the hour anyway. I guess you really can say anything around here - as long as you don't say "Shotgun Blues" in a New GNR thread. God forbid. Heh.

I gotta agree with you, and the post probably should be deleted. A bit of a backstory, it was made by probably the biggest Anti-Barack Obama poster on this board, so I think alot of us were surprised & confused it came from them.

As for Palin, she did ok in the debates. Avoided alot of facts & knowledge, I was unsure what she meant by the whole "Give the VP more power" comment?!  But she certainly surpassed her Gibson/Couric interviews so she met the low expectations. But Biden certainly had a hell of a debate himself.

Irregardless, it's no gamechanger, and Obama's still up big & leading most swing states.

Palin really avoided questions.  She took a different approach than she did with Katie- she didn't just come out and say "i don't know".  She avoided some big questions i thought and went out on a topic she felt really comfortable with.

The whole deal about the VP having more power per the Constitution was a big issue for me.  Cheney obviously stretched his power farther than it was originally given i think.  For me, i took that comment to mean that she would extend her power in the Senate to persuade more people to agree with McCain, thus giving him more power and extending even farther on what Bush/Cheney have been doing.  That's my interpretation on that.  She was vague on that comment and didn't elaborate on it enough.

Biden is a very good debator, but it turns out Palin can hold her posture and actually make eye contact with her opponent.  They even talked eye to eye after the debate and were both smiling.  The way this debate looked and felt is the way the Presidential one should have been.  I don't think the last 2 presidential debates will change the damage that is already done by McCain's actions.  He's proven how he can be, and it's not presidential.

Good debate i thought.  I caught most of it.

Saikin, I agree. McCain can learn a lot from how his running mate acted tonight. She showed class, as did Biden. Obama showed class as well last week but McCain simply gave him the cold shoulder.

You know what the really sad part about tonight was... the REALLY sad part?

Sarah Palin, with all of her "no experience", and the fact she's a VP nom, was more professional, prepared, and energetic and looked MORE like a nom for American President - than John fucking McCain.

That's the sad part.

As for the debate, much more even than McCain/Obama I, and Biden, to my shock, came off like a regular guy. Seemed more reserved than normal.

Both Biden & Palin can tip their caps to themselves, particularly Palin. She did avoid certain questions, but did it in a 'political' way, and majorly rebounded from the Gibson and especially Couric interviews were she came off as a fool. The closing statement where she just talked directly to the American people and told them how she felt about those interviews, was a nice touch, that will come across to many as honest and sincere.

She's still way out of her league, but she didn't take the ass reaming I thought she would, and Biden also didn't set out to destroy her like I thought he would. Very classy on both of their parts.

I'm convinced at this point IF, and that's a big IF, John McCain wins in November, it'll be SOLELY because of Sarah Palin, not on his own merits. Which may have been how he planned it all along.

A Presidential nominee has never won or lost based on a VP, but if Palin is the first to win a party a presidency on the VP-end, I wouldn't be shocked. She is refreshing to certain folks in the Republican party, and every passing day McCain looks like a tired old hat. I'm sure there's many registered Republicans that wish the ticket was reverse at this point - Palin/McCain.

My two cents...

Good post Axlin08. While Palin redeemed herself last night, Biden definitely brought his A-game also. So it washes out. Palin still came off as out of her league, especially in foreign affairs, It was scary hearing her talk about nuclear weapons, but she didn't implode either. The problem is this is a candidate running for VP & we shouldn't be grading on a curve. If there wasn't a war & an aconomic crisis going on right they'd probably be doing better & have more of a chance, however I don't think it's happening in this election. The one problem too with the ticket is they seem to go only after the conservative base, leaving independents & so called reagan Democrats alienated. Being from his area, Biden always struck me as a man of the people, & you're right he showed that last night. (I like when he tells stories about his grandad calling him "Hey Champ"). You are right though, if McCain somehow were to win this election he can bet it was 100% because of her. I don't think it's going to happen though.

I was very impressed with Palin.  I thought she was going to look like a fool.  While she was no college professor (and very few ever are) she held her own against Biden and brought up relevant points.  Her answers were enough to suffice the intellectual elite, but they weren't meant to be.

Both her and Biden did an excellent job that serves to throw the spotlight back on Obama and McCain; exaclty where it should be.

I just hope when McCain loses this election, that the Republican party doesn't turn around and make Palin a scapegoat by saying her inexperience cost the Republicans the election.

It couldn't be further from the truth.

McCain has struck out at the plate too many times at this point. If he wins, it's cause of Palin. If he loses, it's becase of himself. Period.

Yeah, cause no voters quit taking the repubs' seriously while Palin was making an ass out of herself over the last couple of weeks. I think some posters need to get over themselves here & quit ending posts with things like, "Period.". Like your political opinions are some kind of universilly accepted fact. It's more than a little annoying.
