Re: Record plunge for the Dow
We're fucked. And there's not a damn thing we can do about it. That's the worst part in all this. We just have to sit back and hold on for the ride.
Reminds me of Mailman by Soundgarden, only in this case, the politicians are the ones riding us all the way to the bottom.

Re: Record plunge for the Dow
Speaking of this problem, James do you think it would be appropriate to talk about this in the GN'R section? This is going to fuck album sales of CD. Holiday shopping is going to take a nosedive this year and with the supposed "brilliant" strategy to release the album right before Black Friday, I think it's going to be a disaster. But hey, hopefully they do get quite a bit of guaranteed money from Best Buy.

Further evidence right here that 2002 would have been a much better time to release this album. Our economy is going down the shitter- quickly. A lot will download the album for free instead of buy it- more so than before.

Yep, people have more important things to spend that $10-15 on now. I'm sure the GN'R camp is quickly realizing how royally fucked they are right now on this.
Re: Record plunge for the Dow
I would agree with that. They've all been bought off. It's been pretty evident for years based on the fact that their policies (on both "sides") tend to actually hurt average Americans more than they help, no matter what BS they spout in public appearances (in Congress, on TV, etc.).
I would like to know why the country had to descend into this chaos in the post Reagan-Soviet era. We won the Cold War, were the lone superpower, Reagan's vision achieved, and then things just went ass backwards. We sent all our jobs overseas, destroyed our manufacturing base, punished companies that wanted to stay here, gave anyone with a pulse unlimited credit, handed out houses like they were growing on trees, had tons of wars that other countries had to fund, list goes on and on.
Now we are in the final act and seeing what those policies of the last 20 years brought us.
We are a debtor nation. There's no cash flow here. Its debt piled on debt. We have to sell debt(which adds to our debt) to pay off debt, and we are in debt more by attempting to pay off that debt. It would be comical if hadn't destroyed us.
Our country is nothing but foreclosed homes, vacant car lots, malls that sell foreign goods, fast food joints, banks with no credit, and a public so deep in debt it would rather watch American Idol than deal with this catastrophic decline.
Reagan brought us morning in America.
Bush and Clinton brought us mourning in America.
I don't even want to imagine an alternate time line where the Soviet Union never collapsed and capitalism took its last breath.
There's going to be a MASSIVE power and economic vacuum in the next few years.
The US and EU are irrelevant.
Russia and China are licking their chops.
At least the band(sponsored by Best Buy) is going to be playing Chinese Democracy while the Titanic sinks.....

I think it would be a great topic for the GNR section.

Re: Record plunge for the Dow
James, speaking of your rant about how we (the people) have let this happen to us, how the country is basically a wasteland (fast food, malls with foreign goods, etc.)...man, George Carlin's 2nd to last HBO show called "Life Is Worth Losing" from a few years ago really hit on that point hard. At one point he kept repeating, "They don't give a fuck about you...they don't give a fuck about you...THEY DON'T GIVE A FUCK ABOUT YOU!" And all the while the audience just sat there and dumbly laughed, as if he wasn't being serious. That was the greatness about Carlin. Behind the humor there was always some truth in there. And yep, we are headed for a fucking collapse. At some point we sold ourselves out all to get ahead by saving a dollar at Wal-Mart instead of focusing on keeping our economy's fundamentals strong.
Re: Record plunge for the Dow
It's bad when the only jobs around here people can find are those at Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart never seems to have a shortage of jobs either. In truth though, all they do it increase how impoverished people are around them, taking business away from that actual area and sending it overseas.
It's been nice to have found an American job, but with the economy in such a dire situation, it makes me wonder how much longer my job will last. I'm sure it will last for quite some time, until the government decides to shut down the military base for lack of funds.
