Re: McCain lies? Caves? Or Obama was right?
McCain, despite saying he wouldn't attend Friday's debate unless a bailout was finalized, will go anyway.
So, he either caved to the analysts who are saying he fucked up big time; or lied; or Obama was right and a person actually can focus on two things at the same time; or just isn't a man of his word.
Re: McCain lies? Caves? Or Obama was right?
The debate will be a joke regardless. If McCain flops, it works to his advantage. He WAS actually busy doing something to help the country instead of preparing for the debate. If he does well, Obama looks like a bigger idiot for preparing and then flopping. Either way, the debate will have NO EFFECT on the election. It is quite simply a waste of our time.
Re: McCain lies? Caves? Or Obama was right?
I disagree with you buzzsaw, if McCain flops he's toast. Any slight win he gets tonight immediately gets crossed out during next weeks VP debate. That's going to be embarrasing.
Overall though, I think people are pretty decided so far, Obama fans will stick with Obama, McCain fans will stick with McCain. Barring any true disasters from either guy, the polls will likely only sway a few percentage points in either direction. I agree though it won't have much of an effect, but that's because I'm expecting them both to do as predicted. If someone messes up, or looks unprepared, it will definitely hurt them.
Re: McCain lies? Caves? Or Obama was right?
The debate tonight will be CRUCIAL in my opinion to BOTH candidates.
Scenarios...
1) If McCain comes in, after everything, owns Obama, and then heads back to Washington. Obama will look foolish, inexperienced, and it might lead to McCain winning the presidency.
2) If McCain comes in and a draw. They both look unprepared, and both of their 'heat' from the well done conventions dies quickly.
3) If McCain comes in, and Obama owns him. It'll most likely destroy his legitmacy, and although the race won't be totally over, Obama will be given a 2/3 advantage imo.
We'll see. I'll keep an eye on the CD developments, but i'm watching this debate tonight.
Re: McCain lies? Caves? Or Obama was right?
You guys are dreaming. This isn't the 80s, it's 2008. We already know what all the candidates and vp candidates think about everything and it's all on the record. Debates have lost much of their value to the large database of information known as the internet. Want to know what a candidate thinks on an issue, do some research. They know they can't pull a Kerry and say something different from what they have been saying, so it will be same old same old.

Assuming Palin is going to do poorly is a mistake. Assuming Biden is going to be well received is also a mistake. This is warning number 2 against over-confidence.

One of these debates will have a huge effect. Candidacies have been destroyed during debates. Go have a chat with Carter, Mondale, and Dukakis and tell them debates mean nothing.
And Nixon. JFK decides to wear makeup, Nixon refuses. Everyone listening on the radio thinks Nixon won the debate, but everyone watching on TV thinks Nixon looks like a nervous wreck because there's no makeup to hide his sweat...therefore they think JFK wins the debate.

Have you seen Palin's interviews with the media? Good God, she is terrible. Can't even put a coherent sentence together (words are not in the correct order, etc.) and her answers are just dumbfounding. She basically makes some of GWB's gibberish sound incredibly "on the ball" compared to what's coming out of her mouth. The Couric interview was embarrassing. She even had note cards during that interview yet she constantly screwed up. "The bailout is about health care...[looks down at index card]...oh...it's about not wasting taxpayer dollars on corporate welfare." Utter catastrophe.
