Re: Wisconsin liberals trying to rig election
Current state laws don't require any form of ID. I'm not asking for a chip or bio card; just a state issued ID to prove identity. The state ID card would serve to show that the individual is a legal resident of that state and thus allowed to vote in that state. I'm interested in preventing voter fraud, and the policy supported by Republicans is of minimal if any inconvience to voters. People bringing in a water bill to show that they reside in the area they are claiming residency is not sufficient in today's political environment.
Agreed, as long as it is a normal clean ID. Not one of their tricks.
I made it quite clear that both parties pander to bias and prejudices, but Democrats are notorius for attacking Republicans for fear mongering (ask any Democrat why Bush won in 04) and I'm simply stating that the primary platform and campaign message of Democrats is that you will starve and die penniless in the streets if you don't elect us. At least when Republicans quote national security as cause for their election there is substantial evidence to show that foreign elements wish to committ acts of terroism within our boarders.
Of course there are differences in the fear mongering, but it's still fear mongering. The republicans, as the democrats, have all resorted to conscious and malicious acts of distorting, inflating and flat out lying to influence the electorate and voters. In many administrations. There are no excuses here, for either side.
Finally, Florida has been solved for 8 years now. Bush won it fair in square. Those ballots were counted many times over and Bush came up as the victor every time. Even the NY Times stated that Bush won that election. Just because some people couldn't punch a hole in a fucking ballot or got confused and voted for the wrong person (presumably) doesn't mean we can suddenly count votes or voters that don't follow the law.
I'm not talking about the count, I'm talking about the 80 something thousand voters who were rejected to vote based on some 'mistake' involving W.'s brother. Most of them black, ie. democrats. Bush won with 600 votes. Do the math. Not to mention the ruling judge who landed the fat government position a few years later.

Do you know how many thousand ballots were not counted in highly Democratic Palm Beach County?? Gore issued a legimate and allowed recount to which Bush sued because the precinct was favorably Democratic. Gore appealed to the Florida Supreme Court & Bush then appealed to the Supreme Court. The Supreme (Partisan) Court voted that the recount would not be done because the deadline has since passed, even though the courts previously put a stop to the recount.
Oh, and most of those retirees who filled out the ballots you mocked that "cannot follow the law" are called "Senior Citizens" and "Retirees". Hence, they live in Florida.

If Gore was so concerned with making every vote count, why did he petition that only Democratic counties be re-counted? Why didn't he support the military ballots that were ignored.
Re: Wisconsin liberals trying to rig election
Riddle me this. If the electoral vote comes out to be 269 -269 (something well within possibility) who do you think Congress is going to appoint as President. Will of the people be damned. They're going to follow right down party lines and guess who holds more seats?
IIRC it goes to the House, and I think the Dems have more seats. The VP goes to the Senate, and while Lieberman would make it 50-50 with Cheny the deciding factor, the funny thing is there is talk a few Republicans would vote Biden over Palin as VP, authoriing a Democratic ticket. Another thing is there is debate over whether it's the current Congress, or the next one. (Somewhere it states they vote "Immediately" yet somewhere else it states the vote is done January 5th or something). So it's possible the Dems would hold a majority next year.
Also, Nebraska splits there college & Obama will likely win the 1 Omaha college vote & I think that throws a monkeywrech into the math adding up to 269.

I wholy support requiring people to serve in some capacity (peace corps type bullshit shouldn't count) of the public sector for an undefined time (maybe 2 years) to earn the right to be a citizen; ala Starship Troopers. I would also support a voting exam that at least tests the voter for the same expectations we expect out of nationalized citizens. A current events/civics portion would also help to weed out complete morons (read swing voters.)
I would go further than that. Voting, the legislative, judicial and executive should all be exclusive to a smaller group educated and trained in the arts deemed necessary. Open to all of course, present citizen or not. The benefits should be great to avoid corruption, and the penalties for engaging in it total.
Elections all over the world has turned into circuses where officials are elected on tricks and bravado. And we're in total chaos because of it.
I certainly don't want non-citizens capable of running our government. Our Constituion prevents any non-natural born citizen from running for starters, and I have no interest in people who have nothing to lose coming to America and changing our laws to fit what worked in their small and culturally cohesive European country.
In my perfect world though, we'd have one ruler; the good, philosopher King.

Out of curiousity, would you be opposed to Swarzeneger?? Just wondering.. (It won't happen, but just wondering)

Re: Wisconsin liberals trying to rig election
I think it makes sense that if one is a citizen and has resided in the country for a set amount of years (say 35+) than that person should be able to run. Just because someone isn't born on American Soil doesn't make them any less of a citizen perse. But my concern would be if anyone could run once they become citizens, the country would have a flux of immigrants applying for citizenship solely to run for political offices. Since the Constitution requires someone to be 35 years of age to run for president, I think being a citizen for 35 years should count.

In the sense that when they pass the proper exams, have the right experience and fit the right criteria etc. they automatically become 'citizens' on the same line as those simply born within the borders. Inviting outside qualifications diversifies and strengthens a nation.

I fear that's the only real chance of any change at this point. The only, possibly good effect of world 'cooperation' and consolidation.
Re: Wisconsin liberals trying to rig election
Some interesting ideas being floated around in this thread. The voter IQ test should have been enacted decades ago.
Gore appealed to the Florida Supreme Court
Blah. If Gore would have just won his own state, Florida wouldn't have even been a factor.
Even dipshits like Carter and Mondale could win their home states.
Not Gore.
