Anthony Edwards to return to '˜E.R.'

LOS ANGELES - Dr. Mark Greene is coming back to 'ER,' but he's not coming back from the dead.
Anthony Edwards will reprise the role of Greene, who died of a brain tumor at the end of the 2002 season, in flashback scenes in the Nov. 13 episode, NBC announced Thursday.
Dr. Greene will be shown with other characters from the show's past and during an encounter with series newcomer Dr. Cate Banfield (Angela Bassett), an attending physician at County General, the network said. The names of the other returning 'ER' alumni weren't released.
Edwards' appearance comes in the 15th and final season of 'ER,' which debuted in 1994 and launched the careers of George Clooney, who left the show in 1999, and others in the ensemble cast.
The new season premieres Sept. 25.

I stopped watching the season after he left. I'll definitely be tuning in this last season.
Re: Anthony Edwards to return to ‘E.R.’
I got in to this show when it went into syndication on TNT. Watched it religiously for a couple years, then lost interest.
I know it was the first few seasons. Great show.
Thats exactly how I was. I watched it the first eight seasons. Hell I remember watching it with my mom when it first came out. Then once Edwards left, I lost total interest. Then when I used to not do anything all day, I'd always catch the TNT repeats. Saw pretty much everything I missed that way.
The quality did definitely take a nose dive though as the seasons wore on. The first 4-5 seasons were fucking brilliant TV. Then it went into soap opera territory where the main storyline arcs were love interest related. It apparently still has a massive following, but I just cant get into it.
It's losing steam as it ages, but this is a sentimental show for me. My wife and I started watching it when we were dating, and here it is almost 10 years after we married, and it's still on. I'm watching it no matter what.
Its great that he's coming back. But if they want to do him and the long haul viewers a real justice, he'll do a closing voice over or something along those lines.

Edwards wants Clooney to return to '˜ER'
'˜I think he'd be a fool not to,' Anthony Edwards says of his former co-star

Returning 'ER' legend Anthony Edwards has some words for his former co-star, George Clooney.
Edwards, who is heading back to 'ER' for one episode during the show's final season as the beloved Dr. Mark Greene, said Clooney should think about making an 'ER' comeback himself.
'I think he'd be a fool not to,' Edwards told Access during a recent visit to the set. 'But you know, who knows what'll happen.'
And it appears Edwards isn't the only one encouraging Clooney to reprise his role as Dr. Doug Ross.
'I know they want to do everything they can to bring everybody back,' Edwards said of the show's producers.
Edwards was recently coaxed back to County General thanks to correspondence from an old friend.
'I got an e-mail from John Wells, our executive producer, saying, '˜Remember back when'¦ it's been 15 years since we started the show and we're gonna try and make this last season something special,'' Edwards recounted.
The actor said Wells came up with a 'crazy idea' of how he could bring Dr. Greene back, after the character died from a brain tumor at the end of the show's 2001-2002 season.
Providing additional incentive for Edwards' return, the 'ER' producers sweetened the deal by making a sizable donation to Edwards' charity, Shoe4Africa.org.
'I said rather than giving me money for this, help me with something that's really important,' Edwards noted. 'I'm involved in building the largest children's hospital in Africa '” and we're just starting out to raise $15 million to build a children's hospital that will really be something special.'
Now that he has filmed his part, Edwards encourages fellow former 'ER' castmates to get on board the show's final season.
'I'm happy to say my experience has been good, so I have nothing to warn anybody from doing it,' he said.
Edwards' return to 'ER' airs November 13 on NBC.
