Re: Looking for good Rock with Swing and Groove elements

A lot of times when bands I listen to go into almost jazz-like swing styles, or just have a song built of groove instead of riffs or melody, I end up liking them in those styles more than any other. I'll give some examples of what I mean:

Mad Season - Long Gone Day
Blind Melon - Car Seat
Faith No More - Evidence
Barenaked Ladies - Box Set  (anyone other than BS and me know that tune?)

Even Alice In Chains' Swing On This (although it womes off as a joke) is a good example, for GNR I can only really think of 14 years which is a sort of example, although it's more old blues-rock than swing stuff. Jellyfish has a few good examples but no one knows them so I guess that wouldn't happen.

For more rock-based examples of songs with groove, I'd say like
Jerry Cantrell - Cut You In
Black Light Burns - The Mark

I'm not looking to dig into old 60s and 70s rock where blues played a big part, but I would like to hear more tunes in the vein of the ones I mentioned.

Check out a band called "Silkworm", they were an indie 90's band who a few years ago met an untimely demise. Their album Libertine was their best, and describes that swing/jazz rock you describe. I checked Amazon & they have sound bites, (Song 4 'Yen & Janet Forever' is one of the saddest songs I've ever heard).

Also Morphine if your up for it. It was a 3 piece band with sax, bass & drums.  Good band though.
