Re: M.I.A. Store now open
I knew these prices were gonna be through the roof, but seeing the reality of it is crazy. The shirt I always wanted is 75 bucks, and according to a few who attempted to buy something, the shipping costs are a fleecing of the fans. Someone was gonna buy a couple items and the shipping was 200 bucks.
This may cause a huge backlash because hardcores have been waiting months for her to open this store.
I'm on the fence about buying that shirt but if I do buy it(I probably will), its the last thing I buy there.
This is the future for artists though. I understand why she's doing it. Artists cant make money on cds anymore, so they have to resort to high merchandise costs to make money.
Re: M.I.A. Store now open
thats fucking crazy...i guess they are so pricy cuz her fans steal her music so she has to make it up somehow
Yeah I think thats why the product and shipping rates are high. Its a way to make those downloaders pay. I understand the concept and this is likely the future, but it does suck. Especially for fans like me who bought multiple copies in several formats(both albums). I also bought her singles.
I should get a discount on merch.
is it cuz she figures her fan base is the club goin folk with too much $$$ on their hands?
Good point. That is part of her demographic, so that might have factored in to this.
Either way, I'm not happy about it. I planned on making several purchases but now will only be buying that shirt I wanted on the last tour but wasn't available at the venues. I think the shirt was at Treasure Island but was sold out. I had to buy those shitty "How Many?" shirts. 40 bucks each.
I wish her luck with this and hope she rakes in some dough, but I think she's in for a rude awakening because she obviously has very few hardcores willing to pay these prices. It reminds me of that Angel Down crap where GNR fans said they were buying five copies and in reality didn't buy any.:haha:
If someone isn't gonna pay 15 bucks for a disc, I doubt they pay 70-200 bucks plus shipping for shirts.
We'll see. I'm gonna monitor that store over the coming weeks, and if that limited tour merch isn't being moved around, decrease in amount of sizes for sale, etc., this stuff isn't selling and will require a price drop.
Re: M.I.A. Store now open
I bought the white version of that "President" shirt at the show for $25.
Damn you.:haha: I wanted one of those shirts. The black one. They must have all sold out or were not available at my shows.
All of her shit's gonna be high now. Merch, and most likely concert tickets. Everyone was lucky on those last tours because tickets were almost free. She'll never make that mistake again. She puts on one hell of a show and its worth more than 25-45 bucks.
