Re: McCain picks Sarah Palin for Vice President
BTW James, I think Palin is 100% right on the drilling issue. McCain, however, is a fucking flip-flopping panderer. PERIOD. I am pro-drilling and against the left wing environmentalists who believe humans are entirely responsible for global warming. To me it's a natural phase that the Earth goes through from time to time (and there is plenty of evidence to back that belief up...the Little Ice Age is a great example). But I will call out McCain for flip-flopping just the same as I'll call out Obama for flip-flopping on the telecom immunity. Both are fucking pandering politicians. It's really that simple.
Oh I agree. We have to start more drilling here. No doubts there. Regardless of who wins there has to be a major effort put into drilling.

The off-shore drilling thing is a bit of bullshit on the Republicans' part though. Offshore exploration and drilling takes at least a decade to pull off before we start seeing the benefits. When I see politicians claiming that it's the answer to our current energy crunch, I cringe. It is NOT a short-term solution, so they shouldn't even be talking about it in that sense. It is a medium term solution. The long-term solution is finding alternatives so we can stop relying on the fuckers that hate our guts to provide us with energy. Now, drilling in ANWR is an immediate issue. It should be done, no question about it. They have found that the original Alaska pipeline from Prudhoe Bay actually INCREASED the caribou population. It provided a source of warmth for them and they have found it helpful to actually thrive as a species in a harsh environment. The entire argument against drilling in ANWR is based on the premise that it will screw up the migration patterns of a caribou herd. What a crock of shit.

Re: McCain picks Sarah Palin for Vice President
So McCain copied Obama's "surprise" appearance. LOL.

They're going to kill her on The Bridge to Nowhere also. She repeated it again tonight, why?? I have no idea..
Wasn't this already dealt with earlier in this thread?

You should go deliver reality checks at the liberal blogs. You might actually help save Obama's candidacy.:haha:
Her speech was really good, but I thought Rudy's was much better. Its a shame he get the nomination.
I cant stand Giuliani. While he may have a few good qualities, a McCain-Giuliani ticket would have been a disaster.

Re: McCain picks Sarah Palin for Vice President
Energy is not something that should be politicized. Unfortunately, both sides are so hyperbolic in the way they approach the issue that what they do is further ingrain the other side in refusing to give in. The Democrats need to stop fighting energy exploration in the likes of ANWR while the Republicans need to stop feeding Americans BS about how offshore drilling is going to immediately save us. The Democrats also need to stop feeding Americans BS about how global warming is entirely our fault while they drive around in 10-SUV motorcades. Kerry and Gore, especially, I am looking at the two of you. Hypocritical pricks.
Re: McCain picks Sarah Palin for Vice President
There definitely has to be a middle ground, and this is another reason why a McCain administration would be in our best interests. I realize the disaster such a presidency can take us, but as far as energy goes, Obama is too polarizing of a candidate to get anything done. He'll have the haters on one side, the nutswingers on the other, and a few from both parties smack dab in the middle.
We need a Reagan or Clinton style diplomacy, and Obama doesn't bring that to the table.

Re: McCain picks Sarah Palin for Vice President
Obama's energy policy sucks. Ethanol is an awful alternative and he's heavily pushing it. But so is McCain. Every politician seems to be pushing it so far. The government is heavily subsidizing it, but it's just a terrible alternative for a host of reasons.
As for "middle ground," I don't really think it's middle ground so much as common sense and sticking to the facts of the situation. Neither side seems to be capable of that. There's always an exaggeration in their argument instead of merely sticking to the facts. The facts are that we need to drill and we can do it in an environmentally-friendly manner, but also that we need to continue working on offshore drilling, shale oil in states like Colorado, potentially taking advantage of our huge natural gas reserves, and working on non-fossil fuel alternatives for the medium and long term. All of those things can be worked on simultaneously, but none of them are an overnight savior (except shale oil...which is currently too expensive to consistently make a profit while producing it, but a technology breakthrough will leave us with more oil reserves than the Middle East).
