A man accused of posting nine previously unreleased songs by the rock band Guns N' Roses on a website where they could be accessed by the public was arrested at his home early today on suspicion of violating federal copyright laws, authorities said.
Kevin Cogill, 27, is accused of posting the songs, which were being prepared for commercial release, on the Internet blog Antiquiet in June, according to an arrest affidavit. The site received so much traffic after the songs were posted that it crashed, the affidavit states.
Cogill admitted to posting the songs when he was questioned by an FBI agent, according to the affidavit. He was arrested at his home in Culver City this morning and is expected to appear in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles later today, said Assistant U.S. Atty. Craig Missakian.

My own opinion:
I always supported the band right....but this....no, this changes many things for me.
I will not buy the album if they do not release this guy without any lawsuits. I will download it in that case and copy it for all friends and family.
Come arrest me Axl, you lost a long time supporter and defender of you, right there. We are now criminals for wanting to listen to peeks of the songs..of an album we would have bought anyhow.
Not anymore.

I can't wait to give this album away for free to everyone I've ever met when it comes out. This sort of shit makes me feel disgusted being a Guns fan, and part of me would like to see those involved in this fail. I still hope it succeeds because the people making it, Bucket, Robin and Tommy especially, Brain, Pitman, etc. have no part in this but the yes man, the lawyers, and Axl's housekeeping team don't deserve a penny from the album after all they've done.

I think if Axl said, guys let it go, it would not have come to this. I think because of this as a protest it will get leaked faster...that's how pirates work.
And I'll be the first to download it, copy it many times and hand it out. I changed my mind today about GnR in general...they are now pro establishment, pro status quo, pro commercialism.
I am not.
Re: **Kevin Cogill Who Leaked 9 GnR Songs Arrested Today**
MSL should take a long hard look at this and shut down his promotional campaign. This isn't a game anymore, and it's not about poking fun at the GNR camp by leaking songs just to piss them off.
I think Axl and the label have every right to go after this guy; put yourself in their position. The argument of "he had plenty of time to release it himself" doesn't wash with me, and whilst it is frustrating to be a fan at times that doesn't give any of us the right to leak material (and use it for personal gain [ internet fame] in the process)

They legally have a right yes, but they also look like lame corporate prostitutes with this.
I can't believe this is GnR doing it. Lars with Napster? Sure, I can believe that. Prince taking on torrent sites thinking he can win? Yep, he got the mentality for that... but Axl?
