Re: Iron Man 2 (2010)
The latest from the Los Angeles Times:
I just talked to Jon Favreau a bit ago, and he said that while there hasn't been a formal announcement on the sequel to "Iron Man," he's begun developing it. "We're working on it now," he said, "which hasn't been officially announced. It will be released in 2010."

The Robert Downey Jr. starring flick kickstarted the Summer of Superheroes and has (so far) made Marvel a cool half-billion. Keep an eye on this space.

Re: Iron Man 2 (2010)
The studio put a date on the sequel before a draft of the script had even been started, which got me and others a little mad. Hopefully this isn't being rushed; Iron Man was fantastic and the second movie is going to be tough to pull off. The first Iron Man had laughs and was a lot of fun, but the sequel can't be rehash of the original, they need to dig into Tony's darker alcoholic side, and find a villain that won't piss people off (The Mandarin is going to have trouble getting in the film without it seeming racist).
And bring on War Machine!
Re: Iron Man 2 (2010)
CC, my thoughts exactly. My hope is that with Favreau back on board, and I know there was a lot of drama in even accomplishing that, Marvel will still be able to release the best movie possible. I agree it's a seemingly short amount of time, but by 2010 we'll all be pretty hyped again. It'll be the year of Iron Man 2 and hopefully Chinese Democracy.
And jorge76, the way I understand it is that Marvel wants to debut their Captain America and Thor movies as well before they launch an Avengers franchise. They've all already got tentative dates, Captain America coming out a scant month or so before the Avengers movie to tie them all together.

Re: Iron Man 2 (2010)
Yeah that's right von, the third Iron Man movie is intended to be an Avengers movie, for several reasons. They need more time to develop movies about other characters that would be involved like Thor and Cap. They can still get another great Iron Man only movie out that'll be successful and advance the character forward (including another villain, SHIELD stuff, and possibly War Machine), and most comic-book adaptations come in 3's and the third is almost always the weakest, so making the third one an Avengers movie could save that (or exacerbate the problem).
They're looking at the curves of the Spidey and X-Men films and trying to get the best possible trilogy for Iron Man. Spidey and X-Men both peaked with film 2 and had less than loved 3rd movies.
Re: Iron Man 2 (2010)
Awesome, Thanks guys. I read it quite some time ago and obviously wasn't remembering right.
The way I was remembering what I read was that they were preparing the Thor and Cap characters, but they weren't getting stand alone movies.
Which in the case of Captain America would have been a crime to me.
It'll also be a crime to me if they don't take what I've said they should do for a while and make it half WWII period piece, half Superhero. They probably won't but that's how I'd love to see it.
