PSYCHO - 4 stars - excellent

Truely a masterpiece.

PSYCHO II - 3 stars - good

A good straight-forward sequel to the original. Doesn't recapture any atmosphere which leaves it feeling disconnected from the original, but it's a strong effort for a sequel, especially one 23 years later.

PSYCHO III - 1 star - poor

Kudos to Perkins directorial debut as he creates an extremely dark and nicely shot atmosphere, as well as Carter Burwell's original score. The cast & script destroy this film however. The script is just awful, and I can't believe got greenlit, and the casting is about as worse. Alot of the supporting cast from PSYCHO II reprise their roles, which is a good thing, but the new characters fall flat. Jeff Fahey is a good actor and enjoyable, but the character is cookie-cutter, and the two main female leads are just terrible, not convincing, and just all around bad.

PSYCHO IV - 3 stars - good

A nice rebound from PSYCHO III, focuses on being a prequel/sequel to the original PSYCHO. Joseph Stefano the original writer returns for the film, as does Bernard Herrmann's original score, which creates an atmopshere similar to that of the original. Fantastic performances, primarily from Perkins and "Shield" star CCH Pounder drive the film home and leave it extremely satisfying. Shout outs also to Henry Thomas (young Norman) and Olivia Hussey ("mother" Norma Bates) who turned in good performances also. A good film, especially for something that was 'made for cable TV'.

PSYCHO 1998 - no stars - waste of time

A truely pathetic remake, that is awful at all turns. This is the Ishtar-remake of horror films. One of the worst films i've ever watched.

That one was terrible. It just didn't need to be made either.

I love Psycho 2. I was expecting it to be drivel and was really surprised how they made a decent follow up to the original so much later on. Got to agree about the 98 remake....maybe if they'd done something new with the basic premises...but a shot for shot copy was just stupid....

Psycho II is one of the most underrated horror flicks of the 80's. Used to watch that on HBO all the time back then, and rented it tons of times. Lots of suspense.

Only redeeming quality of that remake is Anne Heche.
