Kyle Orton will start as the Chicago Bears opening day quarterback '” beating Rex Grossman in a competition that lasted through training camp and two preseason games.

The Bears open the regular season on Sept. 7 against the Indianapolis Colts.

Orton started 15 games in 2005 and three last season. He's thrown for more than 2,300 yards and 12 touchdowns in his career.

Grossman led the Bears to the Super Bowl after the 2006 season, but has been often criticized for committing turnovers. He has 30 career starts, with 31 TD passes and 33 interceptions.

As a Bears fan I support the decision. Grossman is the worst thing to happen in the history of the franchise. I honestly think if anyone else had led the team to the SB against the Colts, Bears would have been champs.

Orton had a killer win streak going a few years back that was cast aside in favor of forcing Grossman down our throats, and it was a catastrophic failure.

Bears will miss the playoffs, but this is a baby step in the right direction.

My God, Cleveland looks terrible. They cant use any excuses because their starters are all playing against a Giants team missing several key starters. Other than a couple decent Lewis runs and a decent kick off return, they cant do anything.

If this continues through the rest of preseason, they're gonna hear fans chanting for Brady Quinn.

If the Browns are gonna collapse, teams like Buffalo, Denver, etc. must be licking their chops for potential playoff hopes.

It's early though.  I didn't watch any of the game.  I still can't watch any game featuring the Giants (still smarting from the Super Bowl).  The Patriots looked horrendous last night, I can't imagine the Browns could've looked any worse than them.  But I'm not exactly ready to throw in the towel on the season.  I would like to see SOME improvement next time out though.  They looked decent in game 1 so I'm taking it as just a BAD day.  Could be the same for the Browns.  They should be a decent team this year, though they're not gonna sneak up on anybody this time around, tougher schedule too.

Haven't watched the Pats yet, but the Browns were atrocious. I only watched the starters play and they must be hanging their heads in shame.

Yeah Brady hasn't played, which shows that if he ever gets hurt the Pats are in some serious trouble.  Goes to show you how ridiculous it was for people to call him a "system quarterback" a couple years back.  The backup QB's have been terrible.  I'll give them a little bit of a pass though as the offensive line (they've missed a few starters as well) has been equally as bad.  It's tough to look good when you've got no protection.  So sure, they've looked bad but haven't had close to their "A" team on the field.  I don't like that excuse though.  You're only as good as your backups, you need extreme depth in the NFL.  That's why the Pats have been good for so many years.  They've been able to withstand injuries.  Guys go down, other guys step right in and they don't miss a beat.  If the guys who've looked so bad in the first 2 games don't improve, I will cringe when the first injury occurs during the regular seson.  The O-line is my biggest worry.  They played awful in the Super Bowl and have picked up right where they left off in the pre-season.  That's where it all starts, they need to improve their play there.

The Giants first team offense and defense looked great last night. Its preseason, so everyone has to remember that though. But the Giants were without their top 3 recievers last night. I was happy needless to say!
