John Kerry for vice president?

Don't dismiss the notion just yet.

Some political insiders are telling WBZ it could happen.

So why would Obama reach out to Kerry as his choice?

Kerry brings more money and name recognition to the table than any other name on the Obama list so far. Americans do tend to love a comeback kid and this would be the most amazing political comeback since Richard Nixon came back from the dead forty years ago.

"I'm not looking for any new job, I'm running for re-election," Kerry told WBZ last week.

Asked about the V.P. buzz, his press secretary told WBZ in a statement Thursday night:

"If I was bi-lingual, I'd say no in multiple languages. The only job John Kerry is running for, contemplating, or considering is the one he already has."

If you're laughing off the idea of Kerry back on the national ticket again, I don't blame you. While he came close four years ago, his campaign was widely derided as, to put it politely, clumsy.

But consider some reasons why Obama might now turn to Kerry as a running mate.

Polls show many voters question Obama's foreign policy credentials to be a wartime president. As a decorated veteran and longtime member of the senate foreign relations committee, Kerry could fill that gap.

Obama suffers from being a new face on the political scene, but Kerry - warts and all - is well known to the voters, and in 2004, he did draw more votes than any democrat ever has.

And judging from a new anti-smear web site funded by Kerry's political action committee, Kerry would eagerly assume the role of attack dog... Allowing a nominee who prefers to float above the fray to minimize the amount of political hardball he has to play.

One other note: the vice presidential nominee will address the convention on Wednesday night, August 27.

The theme set for that evening - a salute to America's veterans.

The Obama campaign says we shouldn't read anything into that. We'll soon see if they're blowing smoke on that one.

(So what happens if Kerry is on the ticket - will he still run for the Senate?  Read Jon's blog for more.)

I know Democrats are known for shooting themselves in the foot, but this seems above and beyond even their repertoire.

Obama will lose a lot of votes and possibly even the election because of it.  I would not want Kerry.  Period.

GUARANTEED. People need to get off this whole left-wing 'dream ticket' shit. It ain't gonna happen. Obama/Kerry. Obama/Clinton. It's not GOING TO HAPPEN.

I actually think Obama is going to go with an independent or maybe even a Republican. Especially if McCain chooses Lieberman as his VP.

Yeah, that'd be a pretty bad choice. Anyway, I don't think it will be him.

Obama VP buzz squarely on Biden
Posted: 09:49 AM ET

From CNN Ticker Producer Alexander Mooney

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/

Speculation is building Biden will be named Obama's running mate.
(CNN) - When Joe Biden returns to Capitol Hill Monday from his two-day trip to embattled Georgia, vice presidential speculation will rest squarely on him.

The longtime Delaware senator and former presidential candidate has long been considered to be on the shortlist for Barack Obama's running mate, but his quickly-planned strip to Georgia Saturday night at the behest of that country's president left Washington buzzing he is the most likely choice.

After all, the Georgia crisis appears to have put national security issues again at the forefront of the presidential campaign, and it's an issue where John McCain has long held the advantage over Obama. The Illinois senator, so the Beltway chatter goes, needs a running-mate with foreign policy experience now more than ever.

Watch: Obama narrowing down VP list?

If Biden does aspire to be on the Democratic presidential ticket, the trip couldn't have come at a better time '” reinforcing his lengthy resume on matters of foreign policy and reminding voters, and Obama, he is well respected by foreign leaders half a world away.

The trip also comes days before Obama is expected to reveal his VP choice '” with only days remaining until the Democratic convention, the choice is expected to come this week.

CNN Political Market: Biden's stock on the rise

But of course Biden suggested before he left Saturday he isn't making the trip for political reasons.
"I am going to Georgia this weekend to get the facts first-hand and to show my support for Georgia's people and its democratically-elected government," he said in a statement. "I look forward to reporting to my colleagues in the Senate and on the Foreign Relations Committee, as well as the Administration, about what I learn."

He may have one or two conversations with his colleague from Illinois too.

Biden would be a horrible choice too. It'll win Obama votes with firm liberal left-wingers, but it'll cost him the moderate vote.

If Obama were to go with Biden, even if it's a better choice than Kerry, and then McCain goes with Lieberman. This is gonna be alot closer of an election than I originally thought... and I originally thought Obama would walk away with it.

That's a disaster waiting to happen. I don't have issues with Biden and he is more qualified to be president than Obama, but I think its a mistake.

McCain, its time to shock the country by picking Palin and coasting to victory.
