Re: Scarlet Johansson album sells 5000 copies
Despite the imprimatur of producer Dave Sitek (of TV On The Radio) and David Bowie (who contributed to two tracks), and despite a smattering of kind reviews'”and a lot of middling ones, like our own'”Scarlett Johansson's high-profile collection of Tom Waits covers, Anywhere I Lay My Head, sold a modest 5,100 copies in its first week, according to Soundscan. To put that figure in perspective, Kevin Federline's far less reputable rap album Playing With Fire was considered a catastrophe and it sold a little over 6,000 in its debut. To put it in further perspective, that's about one third the number of copies that John Williams' music for Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull moved, and we don't remember a note of that score that wasn't recycled.

I'm shocked that it even sold that much. Its funny when these stars think they can have several high profile careers.
Re: Scarlet Johansson album sells 5000 copies
It takes a push.
Stars think their names are enough to market their album, and it simply isn't. The entertainment consumer considers them a film/TV actor, not a music artist.
And yes, it also takes talent too. Typically when you see an actor as a solo music artist, or especially those that are in music bands, and they push it as 'John Doe's band' they push it like that, because they fuckin' suck and all they've got going for them is the fact that some big name douche bag is in their band.

I didn't even know she had an album coming out.
