Anybody gonna watch it? Never been a hardcore Olympics fan, but will watch some of womens track and field, womens soccer, and probably see what The "dream team" we have this year in basketball will do.

This morning on the news it showed some of the US athletes arriving in China wearing "pollution" masks. It really shows how arrogant our culture is.

I will likely watch it.  I find it interesting, though not like when I was a kid.  I remember sitting up with my parents watching the US beat the USSR in Ice Hockey in 1980 and how big of an event that was.  I also remember winning a lot of free shit from McDonalds when the Russians boycotted the 84 summer games in LA.  I don't think there's a compelling storyline this year other than Phelps, and quite frankly, I don't care to watch men in speedos.

14 Me either. I always gravitated more towards womens events anyways, even when I was a kid.

Yeah, that 1984 McDonalds contest was THE greatest promotion ever. Have vivid memories of that. The US kicked so much ass that every game piece was a winner.  I remember one particular night my dad and I were in McD's, and we ordered something and of course won. When we would win a food item, I made them give me another game piece(not against the rules), so they had to do it. Of course, it was a winner. We repeated this for a couple hours. My dad was probably either stoned or just liked watching me enjoy winning all that crap so he let me do it until I got tired of it.

We walked out of there with several bags full of free food. Back then their food tasted great, even cold, so we ate on that food for a couple days.

McDonalds lost millions during that fiasco. Its why they've never had an identical contest to that again.

I used to watch gymnastics in the 90's. Haven't watched it since then and I wouldn't know ANY of the athletes participating. I'll skip that event.

OK - I watched the guys in speedos last night on the 4x100 relay and I have to admit, it was awesome.  I had written them off with 50m to go and the US anchor somehow caught up to the WR holder to eek out a win by like .08 seconds.  3 teams (I think) beat the old WR in that race (set by the US backup swimmers in qualifying for the finals).  Shit like that could make me into a swimming fan - it was THAT exciting of a race to watch.  I did a fist pump and screamed yes!!! (embarrassingly enough) when they won.

Wow, Great Britain's already won 3 medals, that's normally more than we win over the whole course of an olympic games.

Some friends of mine got married 2 years ago & instead of buying a home they chose to travel the world for a year. They said yes, you goto resturants and see DOG on the menu. You can also get chicken or beef but still dog seems disgusting. but on the other hand, what's the difference between eating cat or dog vs chicken or ostrich or something. Anyway, the guy ending up just eating veggies & rice after a while & actually lost alot of weight.  The other thing, as far as decency, is you can be walking down the street and just see people, mostly vagrants, just taking a dump on the side of the road. Granted, we have homeless people here, but he said it's nothing like over there. Street people are just in the middle of town, all over. You may see a homeless man taking a shit now & then in some US cities, but he said there it's basically part of your daily routine. Also, for kids they have holes in the bottom of their pants, so the kids/babies just take a shit & it falls to the ground. Instead of using diapers all the time.

That was awesome, I just watched it online this morning. For those who haven't seen it, I highly recommend it.

I really am beginnning to watch this years alot. I think it's because TV has become so awful that there are good storylines to follow. The 42 year old swimmer swam a  relay Saturday night. A girl gymnast hurt her ankle last night in the final warmups, she came out with her sweatpants on & they showed her mother who had no idea she wouldn't be performing (she still did the parallel bars). Swimming really translates well on TV for me. I swam growing up as a kid & like watching it on tv. China's doing good too sports wise.

As a vegitarian I've never understood those distinctions. Like why is dog gross? Because it's cute? But lambs are really cute too? Because its friendlier. Seems all very artifical to me.

Then again...so much is odd...like why is it  ok to drink milk that comes from a cow...yet an adult drinking human milk is usually considered somewhat peverse....surely its worse to drink the same thing from an animal? I guess i'm just fucked in the head!
