Re: The NFL 2008 Offseason Thread
well lets compare 07 stats for Wideouts for each team
Jets
Cotchery 1130 yds, 2 TD
Coles 646 yds, 6 TD
Smith 325 yds, 2 TD
Wright 87 yds, 0 TD
Packers
Driver 1048 yds, 2 TD
Jennings 920 yds, 12 TD
Jones 676 yds, 2 TD
Martin 242 yds, 4 TD
Also i think the OLine will have a big hand in how well Favre does in NY..i know the jets added a couple players to their O Line to try and fix things so Favre isnt gonna be the only new face there

Bono, you're Canadian, have some self-respect!! The Cowboys? Ew.
A Pennington-lead Dolphin team is about the funniest thing I can imagine. The dude has no arm strength at all, their o-line is shit, and they don't have a running game to rely on. Dolphins will be last in the East again, but maybe it's smarter to let a usesless vet take that beating instead of a kid with potential.
We'll see how the Jets work out, but those of you relying on ESPN and network wide sports coverage need to keep in mind their needs to satisfy a large market. They're going to want a Jet resurgence, and will pay a team like the Bills in a town like Buffalo no attention. The Bills have had an offseason as good as the Jets (minus Favre) and had a better team (with a young core) to begin with. I think the Jets, although the 2nd most talked about AFC East team, will again be in 3rd behind a dark horse Buffalo team.
Re: The NFL 2008 Offseason Thread
PITTSBURGH - Brian Westbrook and the Philadelphia Eagles agreed to a new contract on Friday, hours before the team opened its pre-season schedule against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Terms of the deal were not announced.
The two-time Pro Bowl running back said early in training camp that he wanted to restructure his contract because he felt underpaid. Westbrook made it clear he wanted to be compensated like one of the best running backs in the NFL.
That's just how coach Andy Reid described his all-purpose back in a statement announcing the new contract.
"As I've said many times, I believe Brian Westbrook is the best running back in football," Reid said. "He can do it all from that position, whether it's running, catching the football or blocking."
The 28-year-old Westbrook was in the third year of a US$25-million, five-year contract he signed in 2005. He was scheduled to earn $3 million this season with a roster bonus of $1.5 million.
Eagles president Joe Banner refused to comment on reports that the contract contained $13 million in guaranteed money over the first three years of the deal. He did say the contract is the most complex he has ever seen.
"It's a complicated deal," Banner said. "There is extension years, potential voided years and escalators. Everything I've ever seen in a contract is in this deal.
"We're talking about a Hall of Fame-calibre player. This is a premier guy, a leader, a player. He just wants to win so badly, and that is what drove him."
Westbrook led the NFL with a franchise-record 2,104 total yards from scrimmage last season. He became the first Eagles player to rush for more than 1,000 yards in consecutive seasons since Duce Staley in 1998-99, and led all NFL running backs with a team-record 90 receptions.
Westbrook has 6,768 yards from scrimmage since becoming a full-time starter in 2004, second to only LaDainian Tomlinson of the San Diego Chargers in that time. Westbrook is the only active player with more than 20 touchdowns both rushing and receiving (27 rushing, 23 receiving).
Westbrook is also the NFL's leading running back in receptions (338), receiving yards (3,121) and touchdown catches since 2003.
Westbrook was named All-Pro last season by The Associated Press.
Re: The NFL 2008 Offseason Thread
How did did the O line protect Pennington?
There's too much competition in the AFC for the Jets to be contenders.
New England
Indianapolis
Cleveland
Pittsburgh
Jacksonville
Tennessee
San Diego
Baltimore
BuffaloI just don't see how the Jets fit in to that equation. Not only do they have to deal with those contenders, there are the other lower tier teams like Denver, Cincinnati, Kansas City, etc. that could have a minor resurgence as well. To add a cherry on top, they will be playing Miami twice and will most likely split that series.
Favre walked in to a crapshoot.
I don't think the Jets are all of a sudden a Super Bowl contender, but I do think they will be better with Favre. And while there will be a lot of competition in the AFC, they have a real weak schedule this year, at least compared to last how the teams finished last year. The AFC East teams play both the NFC and AFC West teams this year, the 2 weakest divisions last season. I see them fighting for a playoff spot, finishing around 8-8 or 9-7.

Re: The NFL 2008 Offseason Thread
Yeah but as for the easy schedule, Buffalo gets that too. If the Jets don't do better than Buffalo they have 0 shot at the playoffs, and I think the Bills are a better team with an equally easy schedule. I know I'm biased as a Buffalonian but they're a forgotten team because they've been bad for so long and are a small devoted market (past two years the NFL season opener has had highest by percentage rating in Buffalo besides the cities of the two teams playing) that news stations can ignore. But the potential Lynch and Edwards showed last year, Evans who is a criminally underrated and underused WR, with a defense that got hammered by injuries last year and improved in the offseason - I just think they're better. Swept the Jets last season too.
Re: The NFL 2008 Offseason Thread
Yeah I hear you with the Bills. I'm a Pats fan and I was under the impression that the Bills would be the second best team in the division (may still be). But people keep saying how terrible the division is. I know Miami is terrible, but I don't think the Bills or Jets will be pushovers this year.

Granted its preseason, but Rodgers looked good last night. Nice mechanics, accuracy, showed poise.
