Re: How Will We Categorize Our Current Decade of Music?
I'd say it's like the 80's. New-Wave was then, emo is now. Korn Limp Bizkit POD were popular early on, whereas Poison, Bon Jovi & Warrant were only popular for the last 3-4 years. There were some legit bands, GNR Replacements, & underground (Pixies), while now there are some legit bands & lesser known also. I like the Killers btw.
Re: How Will We Categorize Our Current Decade of Music?
In alot of ways it's similar to the 80's. Everything is so massively streamlined right now, that it's become a very commercial decade for music.
Rap currently is a long time bastardized version of what it originally was, and is it's era's glam/hair metal. Emo was created in the producer's office. Pop has always been commerical. And there's alot of throwback 80's sound bands out there right now. Coldplay & The Killers sound straight out of the 80's.
I don't think any genres are really revolutionizing the business right now. And even when Guns & Metallica saved the 80's in the latter end, all GN'R was doing was reviving old rock and Metallica old metal.
When we catagorize the 2000's it'll be a punchline down the line. It's kind of like the summer of movies at the theater, and everything is a sequel.

I don't think it's that bad, Neemo. I mean, the 90s were much better but the 00s get too bad a rap imo.

yeah but we are in an age where one hit wonders are the norm...its almost like the pre beatles era again .. and yeah there are some current stand outs but there is alot of disposable crap...the 90's was insane for music so it makes the 00's much more hard to swallow

Are there any current standouts?
Maybe in other genres...but I can't remember the last time I found a new rock act that was any good....I think it was buckcherry...and prior to that BLS...
