Re: Jagged Little Pill Acoustic: Yay or Nay?
Been listening to this album today. I'm shocked by how tame this record is. Never would have thought an amazing record such as Jagged filled with so much venom, frustration, etc. could be so uninspiring and watered down.
I still don't understand why she did this. If she was 50 and had nothing better to do, it would be understandable. She's too young to have resorted to going back to this well.
I think this version of the album hurts the legacy of the original. Yeah, Alanis and that album were overexposed in 95-97, but few can doubt the impact she had.
Anyone else heard this album, and if so, what are your thoughts?
Re: Jagged Little Pill Acoustic: Yay or Nay?
I actually downloaded this the other week. I was so fucking pissed off when I listened to it. Where the hell is all the rage? IMO thats the main reason the original was so damn good. I still listen to the original on an almost regular basis. This garbage... thank god I didnt pay for it.
Re: Jagged Little Pill Acoustic: Yay or Nay?
well the flea and navarro put an awsome sound on first single...and alanis was coming off some serious personal isssues so she was very emotional
and she was much younger ...10 years separate the 2 albums
Which leads to the same question...
Why bother doing it? I just never understood the need for this record, and after listening to it straight through, it boggles the mind.

to tell you the truth i've never heard it... but there is always a demand for acoustic versions of songs, and obviously after jagged little pill her career hasnt hit the same heights...maybe she was due for one more record on her contract and did this to close it out...maybe it was a second attempt at fame...could be a hundred things

Didn't she acually do an Mtv Unplugged too? Where there would be the added passion of the songs being live... and acoustic. Where it would make sense.
(Edit to answer my own questions: Yes she did do the Mtv unplugged, and released it as an album.)
Wasn't this originally released just as Starbucks or something like that too?
(Edit to answer my own questions again: To commemorate the tenth anniversary of Jagged Little Pill, Morissette released a studio acoustic version, Jagged Little Pill Acoustic, in June 2005. The album was released exclusively through Starbucks' Hear Music retail concept through their coffee shops for a six-week run. The limited availability led to a dispute between Maverick Records and HMV North America, who retaliated by removing from sale Morissette's other albums for the duration of Starbucks's exclusive six-week sale.)
