tejastech08 wrote:Complaints about Ledger? Coming from a Batman fan's perspective, the dude fucking nailed the Joker character. Absolutely nailed it. I am nothing but grateful to him and Nolan for their version of the Joker. Now you want me to criticize a Joker performance, ask me about Jack Nicholson's buffoonery in B89.
NOW we're getting somewhere. You are comparing it to Nicholson's Joker. Here is where we agree 1000000000000000000000000000000000000%. Nicholson was god awful in that, and yes Ledger does indeed "own" that performance in every way possible.
However, when you start saying(well, not just you but alot of people) that its the "performance of the ages", well I strongly disagree and could write out a telephone book sized list of performances that are better.
To slightly change the subject a bit......
Any of you people loving this film against the Joker coming back one more time? Its obvious by how this ended that they were gonna do that.
Yes, I'm against it unless one of two actors plays it: DDL or Depp. DDL because he dedicated his SAG award to Heath when the entire awards show was trying to ignore the tragedy that has just occurred a few days ago. DDL is such a class act and probably the best actor on the planet. Depp has a similar nose and facial structure to Heath, plus he is also a great actor like DDL. Otherwise, I am completely against them re-casting it.
Still trying to figure out why you paid money to see the sequel before even watching the first movie. You set yourself up for disappointment.

A few reasons....
1. Sick of the hype
2. Its an "event"movie, and I usually go watch those types.
3. Perfect opportunity popped up to go see it last night.
4. Everyone was telling me Batman Begins wasn't required viewing for this, as its a more "stand alone" sequel.

Not everyone. I told you to watch Begins first. Should have listened to me.

I'm also against the idea of recasting Joker as well but those aren't bad choices and probably who I'd consider back then before TDK went into production (remember, nobody thought Heath Ledger could pull it off as Joker). The problem is with Depp though, he's tight with Tim Burton and he'd probably be afraid to become a part of Nolan's Batman crew since it put his buddy's version to shame.
You know who else I think would be interesting as The Joker? Michael Wincott, the guy who played Top Dollar, the main bad guy in The Crow and the bad guy in Along Came a Spider(with Morgan Freeman). Although not that big of a name, he's a good actor and he has the facial structure to pull off the role of The Joker.
Re: The BATMAN Thread
I really can't get your take on Heath's performance of the Joker now James. I see it as very worthy of an Oscar. I can't really think of any other performances this year that deserve it more than his.
I wouldn't want to see The Joker in any other Batman movie. I know it will probably happen though, they left it wide open for that. Johnny Depp is an obvious choice, but i'm not so sure he would take that role. Could be wrong though.
Edit: that is what i got out of your post on the Two Face story James. I don't know if that's what you were going for.
I still say this movie is absolutely amazing.

Karma.
Yeah under most circumstances I will not watch a sequel before the original, but I had dragged my ass for years not watching Begins, and since the opportunity came up to watch this, I went ahead and did it before I waited too long and it left theaters.
I have Begins now, although reluctant to watch it after that ordeal. Might try it out tonight though.

Well, like I said, I have yet to see anything amazing this year, so he may get a nod because of the weak year it was released.
If this movie had been released last year, it doesn't even come within a light year of the Oscars.
Regarding your Two Face spoiler, yeah thats pretty much what I was aiming at, although you went into more detail. I just didn't see much purpose with the character, and the film just zig zags between plot points.
If Two Face is so central to the story, why gloss it over and why not have him on all the promo posters?
Re: The BATMAN Thread
Because they don't want to give away the film. It's about The Joker's idea that even the most uncorruptable men (Harvey Dent) can be corrupted. It all depends on what you take from it.
If you tell that point from the beginning, you'll be expecting it. I didn't read all the internet fanboy hype. I didn't know Two Face would emerge in this film. They built him up like he wasn't going to.
But James seriously... if you don't like The Dark Knight. There is no way to win you ever. The movie is pure perfection. On a Batman front, on a superhero movie front (and I hate ALL superheros EXCEPT Batman, not a superhero nut either), and on an action film front. It hits it all.
If you don't like TDK... you'll never like anything. Your opinion is WAY high.
TDK is the Gone With The Wind of superhero movies. Instantly. Unlike the Spider Man films, TDK's hype actually matches the film's product, and I felt SURPASSED it in the theater. It's so popular right now, because it's THAT good. The other Batman films were hyped to hell to, and didn't make a fraction of B.O. that TDK is on a roll to make.
And for all of those wondering. "The X-Files: I Want To Believe" (which I will be seeing) and that dumbass "Step Brothers" movie with Will Ferrell... will not unseat TDK. So get ready for at least another $70-80mil weekend for TDK.
Re: The BATMAN Thread
I guess i would have to agree with Axlin08. A lot of mystery was kept around this movie, and the whole plot of it (if you stayed away from spoilers like myself). So it kinda makes sense to keep that part of it under wraps. They hinted towards Two Face, but never revealed what he looked like or any details on the character. Kinda makes sense with the promotion aspect of it.
That aspect of the movie seemed a little muddled, but that could have been effected by the promotion of strictly the Joker.
I thought the script was fantastic, much better then Begins. And really better and less cheesy than any superhero script i've seen. Keep in mind though, i haven't seen Ironman.

I have a very high standard when it comes to watching films. If its not up to par with my standards, it becomes easily forgettable and a faded memory.
I'll "never like anything"? You're basing that on my review of a Batman film?
Here's what I like......
Apocalypse Now
Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Deliverance
Midnight Cowboy
Rocky
Up in Smoke
Black Christmas
River's Edge
Pee Wee's Big Adventure
Friday the 13th part II
Hellraiser
Se7en
Schindler's List
Heat
Goodfellas
Funny Games
Slingblade
Unforgiven
Saving Private Ryan
Fight Club
Casino
Kalifornia
A Tale of Two Sisters
No Country for Old Men
Hard Candy
Fat Girl
Bend It Like Beckham
Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance
Dark Water
Before the Devil Knows You're Dead
The Mist
Atonement
3:10 to Yuma
Requiem for a Dream
Saw
Juno
Show Me Love(Fucking Amal)
Pursuit of Happyness
Three....Extremes
Spun
Monsters Ball
Death Proof
There Will Be Blood
A Mighty Heart
*notice the total absence of super hero flicks on that list*
It isn't my fault that Batman doesn't live up to those standards. I'm not gonna lower my standards because one film gets released.
I'm not trying to rain on any parades. You guys love this flick. Thats cool. Alot of you have been waiting on this for a loooooooooooooong time. I'm glad it met all your expectations. It just didn't meet mine, and that doesn't make my opinion any less valid just because it will never be added to any of my favorite movies lists.
