Re: The BATMAN Thread
Here's what I posted on another forum I go on about the movie...

Lol at all of the 10/10 reviews here.Have you guys never seen Godfather II? There's about as 10/10 as a movie can be (and I would give it a 9.75 if I had to be critical)
Batman The Dark Knight is like a 8.5 maybe 9 if you really want to stretch it. For a big budget Hollywood movie that was intended to cater to the average person it was definitely pretty good and fun to watch, but it wasn't anything genius or amazing. It was just a fun to watch superhero action movie with one great villian (Heath played the Joker very very fucking well)
So while it was a great fun action movie, it wasn't some fucking work of art. People need to get things into perspective.
I didn't read the whole thread but some valid points I did read include,
It is a very conflicted as a movie, torn between being a summer action romp and a serious piece of character development.
Katie Holmes is ugly as hell too. I don't know what you guys are on about.
LOL I was saying this the whole movie
Even the lauded character development falls flat, as the characters far from being identifiable humans are cardboard cutouts of stereotypical archetypes that are hard to see functioning in real life.
And for the one I definitely disagree with...

"moderately good" movies done shatter records for the biggest opening ay and the biggest 1st screening...perhaps you should look into that

the end.Just because something is praised by the majority doesn't make it good. Maybe the one with no taste is you? Just believing in a mad amount of hype?
I'm not trying to insult you either, because I did like the movie it definitely was "moderately" good and enjoyable to me. But it's not deep, the characters are pretty flat, there was a bunch of bad dialogue, etc. It was like stuck between wanting to be art, and wanting to be a sterotypical action movie, which is fine... but it doesn't make it genius or 10/10.
In the end it was just a fun as hell to watch, but typical Hollywood "summer blockbuster" movie. 8.5/10 from me.
EDIT: Again, before someone goes "omg then what is 10/10 to u!?" I would definitely say Godfather II is the closest to 10/10 I've seen.. so it's not like I'm just bashing on Batman to bash on it.
Re: The BATMAN Thread
I don't want a three hour cut of it. I want the fat trimmed and the Joker plot more cohesive. Give me ledger in 5-10 minute doses and maybe I'll be more impressed.
Hope you're just as ready to eat crow on Ledger as you are to proclaim that it sucks.
Lets not put words in my mouth just because this film didn't blow me away. I never said he sucks. In fact, my only compliments of the film are regarding his take on the character.
Yeah, the editing was a problem. Minor or major characters aside. For example, and the film is so forgettable, I may not have this exact sequence right, but one of you can fill in the details:
As for what I meant regarding "getting" it, I meant that it's a completely subjective thing. One man's trash is another man's treasure. You love some horror movies that I fucking can't stand. Some people love Batman, others don't. If you love Batman, you'll probably love this movie. If you don't really care one way or another, then it just comes down to personal taste in terms of storytelling and filmmaking.
Oh I agree, and you are basically getting a "non Batman nutswinger"(no offense) review from me. I neither love or hate Batman. I went into this with an open mind, and as you know, hadn't even watched Batman Begins yet.
People like me will be casting votes for the Oscars. It wont be moderators of Batman forums. Thats why I think Ledger will not get a nomination. While his interpretation is good, it doesn't stand out enough to be able to say "guaranteed Oscar performance".
Now having said that, there isn't really any other performances standing out at the moment, so he may get in by default.

I think he's better than Bardem. If it wasn't a comic book movie, he'd be a lock to win.
Respected movie critics are praising it just as much as Batman fanboys, so I think you're off-base in your assumption that it's just Batman fans who are loving his performance.

James, your complaint about Two-Face is kind of confusing. You say "get onto the main plot." That was the main plot. Harvey's story is the main plot of the film.

I thought Oldman, Echkart, and Ledger all turned in fantastic performances, James. I hate Batman most of the time. I hate Burton/Schumacher films, I think the cartoons are so-so (I've said this all before). But Begins and TDK blew me away. Then again, I AM a fan of super-hero movies in general - these two stand up with the first Spidey and Iron Man, something I never expected DC to do.

Bardem smokes this performance. So does Ellen Page(twice), Day Lewis, Parmender Nagra(sp?), Rafaela Anderson, Philip Seymour Hoffman. I could go on, but I wont bore you.:haha: If we start going back to 1990's movies, I could start listing kids with better performances.
I would actually rank Ledger's minor role in Monster's Ball ahead of this role.
I didn't mean only Batman lovers with batman signals in front of their eyes would only enjoy this.Obviously others will like it as well. Having said that, the praise for this is to the extreme and when it has sunk in, you will see more complaints regarding it, and you yourself might even agree with a few of the points I've brought up regarding this.

Complaints about Ledger? Coming from a Batman fan's perspective, the dude fucking nailed the Joker character. Absolutely nailed it. I am nothing but grateful to him and Nolan for their version of the Joker. Now you want me to criticize a Joker performance, ask me about Jack Nicholson's buffoonery in B89.

I was posting in regards to your other comment and missed this.
Two Face is the main plot? Someone should have sent us non hardcores that memo. This movie didn't know what it wanted to be. How is Two Face the main plot when it only bounces towards him several times throughout the film? You may be right regarding the underlying theme, but Two Face was not the main subject of this.
Should that have been wrapped in a spoiler?:haha:

No, Two-Face is not the main plot. Harvey's fall from grace INTO being Two-Face is the main plot.

NOW we're getting somewhere. You are comparing it to Nicholson's Joker. Here is where we agree 1000000000000000000000000000000000000%. Nicholson was god awful in that, and yes Ledger does indeed "own" that performance in every way possible.
However, when you start saying(well, not just you but alot of people) that its the "performance of the ages", well I strongly disagree and could write out a telephone book sized list of performances that are better.
To slightly change the subject a bit......
Any of you people loving this film against the Joker coming back one more time? Its obvious by how this ended that they were gonna do that.
