When it comes to Batman, you either get it or you don't. 16

I would like to add that my girlfriend went with me at midnight to see this movie.  She's got a sleeping disorder so it's hard for her to stay awake late at night, but she was awake for the whole movie.  She loved it as well.  And she hates superhero movies.

What's there to "get"? Its not like its a complex storyline that only film majors can attempt to decipher. In actuality, its pretty safe fluff presented as some mature, dark, twisted tale, and required the use of shoddy editing techniques to even catapult the story along.

Oh, and you heard it here first.....

Ledger will not be nominated for an Oscar.

Thank the editor if you need to thank anyone.

When the "high" from this film finally subsides, you will hear others pointing out similar issues like I am doing now.

I would seriously like to see a re-edit of this film.

do Batman fans in those online communities do fan edits of Batman films like Halloween fans do?

I'm not faulting Ledger one bit. Its definitely a very quirky take on the Joker character, and I will give kudos for that. The Joker plot is just shot to hell by this lame editing(Von, why haven't you mentioned the editing aspect of this?).

If the Joker plot was more cohesive and we actually got the segments in larger doses instead of these 60 second spurts(some longer but you get the point), I think Ledger would have stood out more.

Yeah, but mainly of the really BAD Batman movies by Schumacher. One guy tried to make Batman & Robin a good movie by chopping it down to 10 minutes and just editing the hell out of it. 16

There's a 3 hour cut of it supposedly and we definitely know there's a 165 minute cut. WB pretty much forced Nolan to chop it down.

Hope you're just as ready to eat crow on Ledger as you are to proclaim that it sucks. The editing was not a problem. He's a supporting character and was in the film just enough instead of being over-exposed like Nicholson's Joker.

As for what I meant regarding "getting" it, I meant that it's a completely subjective thing. One man's trash is another man's treasure. You love some horror movies that I fucking can't stand. Some people love Batman, others don't. If you love Batman, you'll probably love this movie. If you don't really care one way or another, then it just comes down to personal taste in terms of storytelling and filmmaking.

the villian is almost always a more intriguing figure than the hero...which is why big name actors are always chosen for the parts

Thurman, Nicholson, swartzenegger, carey, devito, lee-jones

in superman it was hackman original and spacey recently

Xmen has Ian McLellan

spiderman used Willem Dafoe

Harry potter got Ralph Feines as Voldemorte

Ledger was pretty high profile even before he died

the list goes on and on really...people like rooting for the bad guy and actors can be made or broken depending on how much they can make the audience root for them and hate them at the same time

that being said i havent seen this yet but i think it'll be good though i expect it to be like batman begins and be more drama than action
