I think the Giants proved last season that pretty much any team has a shot at winning the Super Bowl if everything falls into place.  They were a mess after the first 6 games or so, people wanted Coughlin gone, Eli benched, and we know how that ended.  So anything can happen.

Though I'd have to agree with you, I'd be REAL surprised if the Skins made a serious run, especially being in that division.

It's a typical Redskins move. Make no mistake, Jason Taylor is still a very good player, but trading a 2nd rounder and a future 6th rounder for someone who is going to give you one, two years tops is crazy.

I'm not sure how I feel about it. The Giants did well obviously without him, but as a huge Shockey fan, I hate to see him go.

Oh I agree that the NFL is pretty much an "anything goes" league(thank you parity), but it also requires a pretty serious run allowing a few minor fuck ups early on, and I cant picture the Skins doing that.

Cleveland, Baltimore, Arizona, Jacksonville,etc.? Maybe.

Skins? No.

Now thats shocking. They didn't need him though, and they are highly unlikely to repeat last year's success, so I can see why they traded him.

In their defense, or not, however you want to look at it.  This could be viewed as a reactionary move, as they had lost DE Phillip Daniels for the season.  Not sure if that tipped the scales for them to make the deal but it certainly created an area of need.  And Taylor is a GREAT speed pass rusher, so Manning, McNabb, and Romo better beware.  He used to give Brady fits.  The sixth rounder in 2010 isn't a huge deal, the second rounder next year could prove costly.  If Taylor can give them 2 solid years though and they can improve in other areas it may pay off though.  That would've been a better package for a "contender" to make.  The Patriots (or at least their fans) were salivating at the prospects of landing Taylor.  Even though Parcells would probably not have traded him within the division, to the Patriots no less.  But for a team like that, giving up a second rounder wouldn't have been as big a deal.  Maybe the Redskins view themselves as a contender though and this is one of the few pieces they were missing.  Who knows, the NFC is up for grabs as far as I'm concerned.  There's no dominant team.  Heck there are lots of people who think the defending Super Bowl champs won't win the NFC East or even make the playoffs this year.  It's wide open, as it has been the last couple years.

I think that's a move that should work out for both teams.  The Giants should have multiple 2nd round picks in next years draft (unless they traded theirs somewhere along the way), which is always a nice thing not to mention an extra pick on the second day of the draft.  Stockpiling picks is always a good idea.  They proved they didn't need Shockey last year.  It may have been just a coincidence that their season completely turned around when he got hurt but it just seemed like he was more of a problem than a solution at times.  Eli thrived without him in the lineup yelling for the ball all the time.

As for Shockey though, he's still a great talent and should get a boost from re-uniting with Sean Payton.  And maybe getting away from the bright lights of New York City will do him some good and keep him out of trouble.

There might be some light at the end of the tunnel.

After what seems like an eternity of going back and forth, the circus that is Brett Favre vs. The Packers might be getting close to a resolution.

It looks like the league has stepped in and asked the Green Bay Packers to sort things out before Training Camp begins this weekend. Several on-line reports say the team has begun to make calls to gage interest in the future Hall of Famer's services.

WEAU 13, a television station in Wisconsin, reported Tuesday night that NFL commissioner Roger Goodell told Packers GM Ted Thompson that if Favre applies, he would be reinstated by the league. The report also indicated Goodell encouraged Thompson to begin looking to see if a deal to move Favre could be made.

The NFL Network was the first to report that the Packers were exploring possible trade opportunities for Favre. Several teams in the AFC and NFC have confirmed they have been contacted by Green Bay.
