Yeah, this is going to get ugly QUICK. If I was Favre, I would start doing press conferences and get his fans backing him. While I think Favre's skills have declined and retirement is where he belongs, it should be HIS choice on whether he plays or not, not the choice of a disgruntled franchise trying to get "revenge".

Imagine Montana wanting to leave Frisco but the 49ers wouldn't let him. There would have been riots in the streets.

No. He has been contemplating retirement for about three years. They just got pissed he bailed after a good season, they start preparing for the post Favre era, and here he comes making demands.

I understand their frustration, but they gotta get over it and just let him move on. Pulling a Barry Sanders on him will be a massive mistake and has repercussions for the entire league.

Wouldn't be surprised if the commish steps in behind the scenes.

He is claiming he was at least partially forced though.  I guess pressured would be a better word actually.  I think he should have been though.  He dicked them around for months the last few years, and I think this is their revenge.

He's asking for his unconditional release, I don't think there's any way the Packers will do that (if I'm not mistaken he's actually got three years left on his contract).  I just assumed it was because they would want to see what they can get in a trade for him, but then I saw on ESPN if he hasn't reported by the end of July, the Packers can start fining him.  They're gonna get some money one way or another.

What a mess.

Forced? The guy pranced around while the world speculated on whether he would retire each year, and would get a grin a light year across his face every time a reporter would mention it.

I'm not sympathizing with him in that regard. He allowed this retirement crap to be a major NFL story every year, so forced aint gonna cut the mustard.

What the Packers are doing to him is terrible, but him trying to portray himself as Mother Teresa just isn't gonna work.

He's gonna have to spin it another way.

He's Barry Sanders. They have him by the balls with that contract and they're not letting go.

Barry Sanders is still young enough to come back to the league and shatter Emmitt's record, but he cant because if he did he has to do it with the Lions.

Been watching the NFL Network, and this thing may turn into a complete disaster for the league.

Polls taken and 54% want him to just retire.

Baltimore is now interested, but obviously cant make any moves yet(neither can Minnesota).

CC, they mentioned Buffalo having interest as well. Maybe they'll mention it on the local sports there or something.

I'm starting to think Favre may have already been making back door deals, which is not only unethical, but also illegal.

Minnesota was awfully quick to jump into the race.

League needs to put this story in the ground fast.

Question: Any team willing to buy out that huge contract and sign him to a new one just to have Favre for a year or two?

He played the wrong cards.

If Buffalo signs Favre I will be pissed. I still don't see how it could happen. The Bills have always been fairly cheap, granted not as cheap as the Sabres, but too cheap to lose players and picks in a trade, or pay his Packers contract plus a new one. Let Edwards progress. He's already shown he can compete at the NFL level. He's the second best starting QB in the division too.

I'd like to see Favre come back, but stay the hell away from Buffalo. I still haven't heard his name mentioned in local sources, but I haven't had time to look much.

If the Packers wont release him or trade him for nothing,he will never play in the league again. A franchise would take too big of a cap hit to bet on Favre for 1-2 years max. Its not worth the risk.

In hindsight, it was probably a bad move for these teams to show interest with his status so up in the air. It tells the current QBs they can be cast aside quickly, and with a Favre deal going nowhere, wouldn't inspire confidence going into the preseason.

Will be interesting to see how this plays out.
