Re: Sympathy for the Hoarders?
Just wanted to get everyone's opinion on this subject. There is often much hate for the hoarders (people who "hoard" instead of openly share music not heard by most people) in various communities but the GNR community seems to intensify this hate times ten!!
On one hand we fans (or at least most of us) obviously would like all of the community to have ALL the music possible. Keeping a great song to yourself with no chance of discussion, opinions, etc spoils part of the fun.
On the other hand once you let out a "rare" track it is no longer rare because it will spread through the communities like wildfire. This within itself wouldn't be a bad thing except rarities are a bit like "underground currency". Let's say that James or Neemo (this is only for example don't start pming them for things they DO NOT have!!!) had the long sought after "The General". We would ALL be begging for it, right? So why not share it openly? It may be that they knew of another "hoarder" who has "Something Always". The value that James and Neemo would have to "buy" this other track would be their own "hoarded" track. If they were to give up this track to the community before getting the other sought after track it would now hold no trading value.
I am NOT condoning nor condemning this practice I'm simply looking for opinions.
Re: Sympathy for the Hoarders?
I sympathize with the hoarders because I know what its like to seek out something, finally get it, and not really be interested in unloading it free of charge. A lot of time, effort, and sometimes money goes into it to just share with the whole world.
I also see it from the other side. The music is not owned by you(me), so does anyone have the right to keep it to themselves?
Its walking a very fine line....
Re: Sympathy for the Hoarders?
I understand it, it sucks but whatever if people want to keep it to themselves, that's their decision. Also, I'm sure they traded something to get that rare song, so it's like barter. It took alot of time & work too.
I'd prefer they leak it, especially in GnR's case since CD is so far off/possibly never being released. A band like Metallica or U2, the fans will hear it soon enough, so I understand hoarding.
Offhand, does anyone know if anyone that posts on any of the sites does have anything?? You don't have to name names, just curious if anyone ever came across someone (or has a strong suspicion) at a place like HTGTH or Chinesedemocracy.com?!

Re: Sympathy for the Hoarders?
I understand holding off on leaking things for a few days or weeks to try tog et something else, but any time longer than that and you're just fooling yourself. Let it out.
Re: Sympathy for the Hoarders?
Yes there are other tracks in circulation. I'm more interested in tracking down the Kala demos than I am shit from CD. The CD songs will leak eventually anyways. Some of these MIA douchebags are tough nuts to crack.
One of my hoarding experiences was when I talked a guy into giving me Kala a couple weeks before the initial leak. At that specific time, it was only me and him(and whoever else he shared with) who had it. The quality was shit though. I felt like leaking it because I knew the real thing was gonna leak soon, but I also respected MIA enough to where I wasn't gonna steal her buzz by leaking shit quality rips of what wound up being an amazing album. I didn't even share it with the two people I talked to regularly at her site.
Considered leaking it at ROV, but no one even knew about her there at the time. I didn't start pushing her there until the album came out.
There's also various rumors that pop up from time to time that I played a role in leaking Metallica demos a few years back, but I most certainly will not take credit for that because I know damn well I wasn't the first person to get those or post them.
Re: Sympathy for the Hoarders?
Does any one know for fact if more CD tracks are circulating?
Wouldn't swear on a stack of bibles, but would bet my car that there's more out there.
Its a touchy subject. People know certain things, but when you mention it publicly, you are saying things that were meant to be private, and the person(s) are not really in a position to defend themselves.
I usually try to stay quiet on the whole subject.
I'm not talking about that lame portugal "collective" bullshit either.
That was a smokescreen the size of the Grand Canyon. Laughed hysterically when every fake hoarder in the universe claimed to have Portugal connections. They fell into the trap so easily.
