Well, shit James. You know we're on the same page as far as listening to different kinds of stuff, but I do think the attitude has been turned way up on the criticism of CD. As far as this band living up to the talent behind it, the only talent that really matters is Axl. He calls the shots. You and I both know Bucket can do more. Robin certainly is capable of some gnarly shit, but they are working within the confines of what Axl tells them or wants from them.
Personally, with every listen I give this stuff, I like it more and more. There are some pretty grand ideas and some pretty ambitious arrangements and structures, and to me this batch of leaks is the best. It's almost as if the puzzle is becoming more clearer to me as I listen. You know my past, you know I've been ready to call it a day on GNR, but this stuff gives me hope that there's something worth listening to.
And I'll be honest, as far as talent level, I don't think we'd want Slash around this stuff, which is becoming the rallying cry. Slash couldn't pull this stuff off. Not because he doesn't have the ability, but because he doesn't have the balls. It's clear why he wanted no part of this stuff. It doesn't carry the security blanket of the same old shit that he does, but does well.
The reason my feelings may start to be veering in the "negative" is because this music has now been placed under my microscope. I do this with other albums as well. I'm not giving Axl a free pass because he's the singer of my favorite band, nor do I think he deserves a free pass.
You and a couple others have brought up AFD and Slash concerning some of the lukewarm reaction to this. I want to make myself clear on this point.....
I do not want AFD. I haven't listened to it in years, and will go more years without listening to it. I don't want Slash on this record. That defeats the purpose of the whole record. Just because this isn't blowing my mind doesn't mean I want stale VR solos added to it. I should be able to judge this material without being lumped in with people dying for Slash.
As far as your comments about nothing positive allowed here, are you serious? Cmon Bri. Basically anything but porn and insults is allowed here. You're going to get a wide mix of opinions here because those posting here know they can give their opinions here without getting attacked by trolls and/or basement dwellers. No one here has to post fake optimism or negativity just for the sake of negativity.

Ummm not really. Some of those posts were stand alone points and the others were in response to the conversation Bigbri and I were having. Didn't realize I had shackles on when it came to conversation.
Well, Bono, I don't advocate calling for the return of Buckethead, I prefer him solo. His solo stuff is light-years ahead of what he's doing for GNR. But, at least he's on the leaks, so he's fair game to discuss.
I totally agree with this. I'm not a huge Buckethead fan but from the stuff I've listened to and watched on youtube he's pretty fucking sweet and yes his solo stuff is much better than what we're seeing from him with Gn'R.

If only he weren't handcuffed in GNR, perhaps he could have contributed something really interesting.

The music is on the fence of being bad ass. I think they just lack and identity and chemistry. They don't know what they are or what they should sound like. Its a shame. Is Better the New GNR's banner song? Like Paradise City is the Classic Lineup's theme song? What is this band about? I don't get it. They don't know either. The magic that came from 5 friends is gone. There is not magic. There is nobody rising to Axl's vocals. NOBODY. Like some said, great solos by the guitar players, but they are solos, not for the song. Just solos to solo and sound like they were punched in. It sounds to sterile and contrived to me. All these dramatic synthisizer intros are too much. Not bare bones enough. Does Chinese Democracy need a one minute intro? perhaps, but 5 other songs don't. Its not Dio "Holy Diver" for heaven's sake. And Holy Diver is a classic song. They are right on the cusp of being there. BRI, I do "enjoy" the songs, don't get me wrong. But like Bono says, 11 years for this? Are you serious. Fuck the final mix, it won't save these songs. They need new songs to save this. Is this the worst album ever? Fuck no. Is this the worst GNR album ever? Damn right.

No, the worst GN'R album ever is Spaghetti Incident. And actually, I think CD will be more consistent than the Illusions, but definitely not worth the wait. Not even close to worth it.

Reminds me of that comic strip in Blender years ago about the evolution of Chinese Democracy. Started recording in the days of Jesus, and by the time it was heard, people weren't people. Just brains. One brain says to the other: This really is worse than The Spaghetti Incident.:haha:

I still think the leaks make good songs. In general melodies are good, structures are good.....I think if we looked at the weaker songs of UYI they arn't much better than this.
well ranking them not quite as good as the weaker UYI tracks that isnt saying much 
this is supposed to be the most hyped album in forever...its supposed to rock the music world to its foundations...its supposed to bring world peace ...its supposed to be mindblowing and epic
but you are saying that its basically B Grade Material from 1991 ..that is why people are not jumping for joy here
