Re: If A Documentary Was Made On The GnR Forums 'Chinese Democracy' era...
What would you include? (just little caveats and anecdotes that made it a fun ride)
I would say definitely Jarmo becoming the lead on things early on, running HTGTH. Maybe then the breakup into other forums like this one.
James' quote about "If CD comes out this year I'll eat an elephant turd and post it on youtube" guarantee, lol.
I recall on HTGTH there was a poster Mike Giulani, he was from NYC & told me he was a union plumber. I think he broke his wrist at work, and would post constantly, probably was on some serious meds, but I think he had like 30,000 posts in about 90 days (maybe it was 10,000, but it was definitely impressive). Then he just disappeared. I'm guessing he went back to work, although I hope he didn't OD. Anyway I'd see his post count go up like 50 within an hour, it was nonstop. Pretty crazy. He & I dm'd a few times, so sorta knew him, then he just dropped off.
I guess the RussTCB thing here, BringBackAdler getting banned what, 3 times? was pretty funny.
Axl signing on as Dexter the one night.
This was a small event, but made me laugh. I recall one friday back in 2005 I think were talking about the label & all, and one said he'll call their phone number and ask to speak to marketing. I read it and scoffed, but they did seem like dumb high school kids, so who knows if they did it. Anyway one posted a little bit later he called up, got the front desk, and just asked 'hi I'm calling for the marketing department'. While it sounds far fetched, who knows if its true. He said he got thru to somebody, and just asked 'Hi, can you tell me if Chinese Democracy is going to be released this year?'. I don't recall the response, but it did seem like something an employee would say. Probably not someone very high up answering the phone, and they just said something like 'At this time I cannot comment on a release date for that album', but they read into it that it is still in the pipeline, and not given up on. Anyway it just made me laugh that someone was sitting in the desk or cubicle, and answered the phone and it was just some posters from a guns n roses forum, lol.
Oh yeah, the whole Mister Sainte Laurent thing, wtf. An amateur wrestler swindling some demos and leaking them, gosh, who saw that one coming?!
Bumblefoot actually posting was pretty kind of him. The tumbleweeds during the DJ Ashba years, gosh I logged on & it'd be months since the last post.
It was a fun ride. Anyone else?

That's a good recap. I can just add some minor things I thought was fun:
Fat kid who claimed Axl let him listen to CD in his car.
IRS played on Mike Trunk
Slash showing up at Axl's house.
Buckethead recording in a chicken coop they built for him in the studio.
Some producer sending Axl ideas on tape, only for Axl to pile them up in his driveway and run them over with his car.

Eddie Trunks a good one. Wasn't Mike Piazza tied into that too? Was he playing them for him on the show, or did Axl give Piazza the demo's?
The kid who claimed he heard them sounds familiar. There were some pretty shoddy lies posted on the forums, ppl who would swear they were insiders somehow (My Aunts in the industry, is high up at Best Buy etc)
The storage unti/Tom Zutaut was strange

‘Soon’ is the word…
Why did this all happen?
Was 'Soon' from the 2002 MTV awards Kurt Loder interview? Or it was an interview a few years later, I can't recall. But I thought Axl was asked if CD would be released anytime soon, what was his response, something like "I'm not sure 'soon' is the word"
and then the forums took that as some sort of battle cry and it became a thing.
The Fantasy Footballs were always fun, and Neemo's elimination challenge/Survivor polls.

We were very credulous in those days. I remember in 2002 you could get away with so much shit and everybody would fall for it. On HTGTH the vets once peddled a story there was an unreleased GN'R song from the 90s called Labyrinth. A rare b-side like Crash Diet. They hailed it as better than Estranged. They got half the board including me to believe it.
Me and some guys (Regal99) had a thing on the board 2000 Intentions where we would joke about Dizzy Reed being the creative genius of GN'R. It was like that old McCartney is dead conspiracy where you would find all sorts of clues and interpretations in the album notes, pictures etc. Fun stuff. Anyways, I decided to pull the same joke on another board. I said Axl Rose had left the band and Dizzy was now the leader. People took it seriously and got really angry.
Fat kid was in 2006 I think, still fertile ground then. Now everybody would just laugh at these ridiculous attempts to troll people.
Don't know the details about the Mike Trunk thing. Incredible they played that song on the radio and nobody recorded it. Not even a snippet.
