I mostly keep the Title track of the album from Village Studios in Rotation,
, also listen to 2006 versions of TWAT and Better at times, along with Monsters, and a couple more Village tracks & Oh My God.
Anyways the unfinished Title Track from Village Studios still sounds a Millions times better with Bass Guitar loud and clear, .... I can't even imagine listening to the shitty album mix where the Bass Guitar is nonexistent.?
From day 1, the Bass Guitar in GN'R recordings was always Loud
and a big part of the GN'R sound.
So WTF happened with the Chinese Democracy (Album) ???
Tommy had been in the band longer than anyone except Dizwald & of course Axxl
Why on Earth was the bands sound, and the sound of RnR & Metal in general just
tossed out the window???
Any Theories?

Yes it's pretty criminal. And on the songs where there a few rare moments where his bass cuts through, the basslines are really cool and interesting.
The whole thing is a mess -I love Chinese, but yeah it is so flawed. Victim of too many layers upon layers. The drums sound like shit for most of it too - all the life compressed out of them.

Title track is like a different song. If they hit that on the radio in 2001 it might catch on.
Album feels watered down, all the edges evened out. It reminds me of Boston's Third Stage which feels over polished and..sterile.
Don't spend a decade on an album I suppose.

I don't think it's a theory or hard to explain. Tommy's bass is great on the album, it's just that Ron's guitar is mixed over it.
At some point someone should have said to Axl that including these guys (Frank, Ron ect) is cool, but too many people got added when the songs were mostly finished in the 90s.
It's just a wall of sound on the album that ruins the soul of it.
imo Catcher in the Rye is the best example of this.

As for still actually listening to the final album, I only listen to 4 songs.

They are way too cluttered as well but the songs are great and Bucket’s solos are killer.
