Re: Bush plans Iran strike by August
You're missing my point. I'm not saying Canada isn't a good ally and I'm certainly not saying Canada doesn't make money off of the US. I'm stating that from a security standpoint (economic as well as militarily considered) the UK is America's greatest ally.
Let's be honest, Canada could "cut-off" the US tomorrow, but who would be hurt more by that? The US needs allies that are willing to help enforce our policies, not just make a buck off of us.
Re: Bush plans Iran strike by August
totally missed my point obviously
the usa made almost 200 million dollars off of canada in 2004
the usa made 38 thousand off the UK in the same time frame
Canada has troops stationed in Afghanistan after the US decided that they didnt wanna occupy there anymore, Canada were borthers in arms to the USA in WW1, WW2, Korean, Gulf wars
its obvious to me that all you think a country is good for is to strong arm others...there is more to the world than military might my friend
and what about the USA purchasing Canadian electricity? we havent even touched that yet

Re: Bush plans Iran strike by August
Neemo, I think you miss the point. First off, Canada's troops in Afghanistan amount to squat diddly. I am in no way insulting their service or losses, but in the big picture, it's squat. The US has more troops in the Middle East than the entire Canadian Army, and we still maintain a very storng presence in Afghanistan. You make it sound as if Canada was left in Afghanistan to fight the war while the US bailed. Get real.
I get your nationalism and love of Canada, I wouldn't expect anything less. I'm not going to mention Canada's involvements in the major conflicts, as nothing positive would come from it, but there is a reason why the US gets all the credit for those wars, save WWI obviously.
And electricty, I hope you kid. We're doing you a favor buying electricity from you. The US could solve all of its domestic electricty needs with 3 or 4 nuclear power plants, but once again, a vocal, ill-informed minority segment of the population is momentarily keeping that from happening.
Don't read my comments as a hit on Canada, but all things considered, the US strongest allies are those who always follow us into battle and help to protect the free world. Military force is the strongest, objective trait. It's only natural that the US and Canada have strong trade agreements, but it's obvious who benefits the most from this arrangement. There's no arguing that the US is Canada's greatest ally, but I disagree that the US has no better allies than our neighbors to the North.
Let's agree to disagree.

Where would you get the $$$ for the nuclear stations? instead you use our existing facilities...and thanks for buying our electricity and raising our heating and cooling costs, and overloading the grid and causing the blackout and rolling brownouts much appreciated
you say canada is the spoiled brat that doesnt appreciate the father...well it seems that the sentiments are a 2-way street...once again the world doesnt sole revolve solely around military might..its obvious that you take all that canada offers for granted...i think we both agree that canada deosnt have near the military might of the USA...no we spend our $$$ in different areas to help our allies with food and resources until you undesrstand that then i guess we will continue to disagree on this subject...
twas a decent discussion though cheers....no hard feelings man, i do wish you'd try to better understand Canada's position in the North American relationship though
Re: Bush plans Iran strike by August
Okay I don't know how to say this without coming across as a racist pig but to Randall. You seem to be acting like the UK is backing the US 100% , if we could we'd be out of Iraq and stop being America's allies as fast as we could. By allying with the US our country got known as the bitch of America. Over here our leaders get criticised for signs of alliance with the US. No one wants these wars and the sooner they're over and I say just get the job fucking done if they have to even just bomb the country to shit do it, as long as it gets this thing over and they can rebuild their country. Same with Afghan. Just bomb the hell out of where the taliban are run in, hold it, bomb the next bit. Rinse repeat. I don't know much about military and all that but these wars seem stupid when we all know with the single press of a button they could be over and yet they are dragging out for years.

Hahahaha!!! What a fucking joke. There's a reason the States get all the credit(at home) for those wars alright. It's because of all the RAW! RAW! USA! USA! movies Hollywood produces. It's because of the tunnel vision curriculum thats taught in your schools and it's becasue of the propaganda run media you have. I can't believe you actually said that.

Who are the famous Candian Generals from WW2? Who led the allies during ww2? Who planned D-Day and provided nearly all the troops ( I know how you guys love to say, "hey, we were there too (all 5 of us)". Sorry pal, chalk it up to population (you have what 20 mil now) but all things considered it's dust in the wind/ The mounties aren't much against steel.

Re: Bush plans Iran strike by August
I also want to add that taking credit for something you have no involvement in is pretty dumb. For example, me claiming that I am somehow cool or better because of the american revolution, ww2, etc means nothing as I wasn't there. Considering you have no idea what is taught in American schools, and I'd bet my paycheck you're extremely ignorant on military history, I'd be careful before you begin a debate with me about who did what and who deserves credit. Another ill-informed wannabe doing the "cool" thing and poking fun at "americans", exactly my point that started this whole side show.

Cmon Flagg. Thats a bit below the belt.
There isn't any anti american shit in this thread, so I don't see why you're steering it in that direction. You made some comments that reflect Canada in a not so positive light, so you should have expected a little heat.
I don't think listing the military accomplishments of the US is necessary. Everyone knows we're there when violence is needed to restore order. We do get help during those events, and I don't think any ally should be belittled for whatever their contributions were.
An example would be the first Gulf War. Japan donated money to help finance the war and that was pretty much it. Every contribution helps.

we dont have famous generals because we dont glorify war. Since the US does, they put theirs up on pedestals

no you're right, but again Canada doesnt glorify war....its when you write off canadian deaths as insignificant, thats where i have a problem, or when you say that my country is useless, when you prolly know less about Canada than i do about the military
