Re: The NHL 2007-08 Season Thread
Wow, the NHL beat the NBA in ratings in Detroit. That's pretty big.
Sad about this rookie being killed.

I still remember back when Flyers goalie Pele Lindbergh died in a car crash. I was in about 8th grade. Oddly enough, a friend of mine moved out to Jersey & lives only about a mile from where he crashed. The turn is supposedly really sharp with a wall over a bridge.

Yeah I noticed. They played the Sixers in the first round & Philly was up 2-1 I think. Detroit was losing at halftime & everyone here really thought the Sixers were going to win the series. Then Detorit "flicked the switch" and won out the 2nd half & rest of the games I think. I like Rasheed, he's a great player, even though he's a head case. I'd still take him over almost all the big men in the league.

the end sucked though
I almost got to watch a whole game anyways even though I missed regulation because of Halen, lol.
Anyways, yeah. Bad ending. Oh well, I firmly believe this series will end in game 6.
It'll go to game 7. Too much money on the line for all concerned to let this end tonight...
Re: The NHL 2007-08 Season Thread
man the draft was last night
its always on a Saturday the bastards
couple of surprising transactions though
The Philadelphia Flyers traded versatile forward R.J. Umberger to the Columbus Blue Jackets during the first round of the NHL draft on Friday night.
The Flyers received the Blue Jackets' first-round pick (19th overall) and Columbus' third-round selection (67th overall). Philadelphia also sent its fourth-round choice (No. 119) with Umberger to Columbus.
Ray Emery was placed on waivers Friday by the Ottawa Senators, who intend to buy out the goalie's contract if he isn't claimed by another team within two days.
Speaking before the NHL draft in Ottawa, Senators general manager Bryan Murray said he had grown tired of the distractions caused by Emery last season, and wanted to 'clean the slate' after hiring new coach Craig Hartsburg last week to replace him behind the bench.
Calgary Flames were busy at the NHL Entry Draft, acquiring talented centre Mike Cammalleri in a three-way deal and shipping forward Alex Tanguay to the Montreal Canadiens.
The Flames sent their first round pick, 17th overall, to the Los Angeles Kings for Cammalleri. The Kings then sent the 17th and 28th overall picks to Anaheim for the Ducks' 12th overall selection.
The Florida Panthers traded captain Olli Jokinen to the Phoenix Coyotes for defencemen Nick Boynton and Keith Ballard and a second-round draft pick on Friday.
The Toronto Maple Leafs on Friday granted the Montreal Canadiens permission to talk to captain Mats Sundin.
'We gave Montreal permission,' Toronto general manager Cliff Fletcher told TSN of Canada on Friday. 'Nothing else to say.'
The 37-year-old center, who has not declared whether he will return for another NHL season, will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.
Although plagued by a groin injury which ultimately ended his campaign, Sundin still recorded 32 goals and a team-leading 78 points in 74 games in 2007-08.
'We'll consider him, but we'll have to see how he'll fit in,' Montreal general manager Bob Gainey said. 'He doesn't know me and I really don't know him. I know of him, but we would need to sit down and enter into a discussion.
'We are unmistakenly proud - it's our (100th) anniversary next year and a lot of things are planned. Along with that, I think we're in a position where we owe it to our players and our fans to make the effort to put some strong footings under our team and be more competitive.'
Drafted first overall by Quebec in 1989, Sundin has registered 555 goals and 1,321 points in 1,305 career games with the Nordiques and Maple Leafs.
Re: The NHL 2007-08 Season Thread
I thought last night was Friday?
Sundin in Montreal will never happen. He's either going to stay in Toronto or retire. Tanguay's an interesting deal and we didn't give up much to get him. It looks for sure that Ryder's not going to be in Montreal at the start of the season. Tanguay will likely take his spot in the lineup.
