Re: Current Events...
Democrats can’t touch McConnell so long as they’re standing behind Fetterman, who miraculously was able to sponsor bills while tucked away in the psych ward. McConnell should retire, but at least he only fumbles over his words once a month. Fetterman still can’t make a coherent statement and wanted to wear his shorts and hoodie on the senate floor.
Re: Current Events...
Same could be said in the other direction. You can’t have a problem with Feinstein if you had no problem with McConnell…
It’s confusing why Feinstein needed to be kept around when any number of California democrats could take her place.
Personally, i felt bad watching those videos of McConnell…I’ll never agree with his politics but i don’t like seeing people suffering.
Everything McConnel has ever done was perfectly within the rules. Trump? That guy doesn’t care about rules.
McConnel has been ruthless but still maintained decorum and followed precedents.
90 years is a good life. I hope i get as many.

I called it!
One has nothing to do with the other. Yeah... McConnell needs to go...but last I checked...he's lucid enough to know which planet he's on.
If we give him the same free pass as Feinstein got...that means you gotta give McConnell at least 5 more years before you have a problem with it.
This is a great example of why hyper partisan politics is so damaging. Can't call a spade a spade because you'll get shit from people on your own team. Gotta have 100% support..from trans to late term abortion to critical race theory to brain dead invalids being wheeled into the Senate. No wavering!
I've seen people on the politics sub who dared bring up replacing Feinstein get attacked.
Imagine the mindset of voting for her in the last election. Talk about voting against your interests...
Re: Current Events...
I'm equal opportunity in terms of term limits. There should be an age limit or something. You want to serve a long time in Congress. Get in early.
As far as McConnell goes, as long as he's still lucid and there and functioning it's fine if he keeps on serving. He's probably more damaging than Trump but he's done all within the laws etc. It's not his fault he's outmanuevered the Democrats.
Did anyone mention the Menendez stuff where he got caught with 480k in his house. NJ politicans are sleazy. Water is wet. They belong in a group with Chicago, Louisiana as sort of the areas/states where corruption seems to be prevalent for decades maybe centuries.

Yea it’s true…and i am striving toward not toeing that party line. Honestly, criticize Biden all you want….but i think he’s done a decent job of calming things down and allowing an environment for partisanship to die down.
BUT this is is still a game of ‘i know you are but what am i?’

The problem with term limits in my opinion has always been that it takes responsibility away from the voter.
You wanna talk about victomhood? Voters who don’t trust themselves to the point that they need to create rules based on age is deflecting responsibility.

I don't buy this reasoning.
It's not easy getting incumbents out of office. They become entrenched in the system...and they unite with one another and fight to the death to keep each other in.
A simple vote alone cannot compete with that.
A good example this last election is that house race in Texas. Pelosi herself actually flew down to Texas to specifically rally and support a pro-life candidate...during an election the DNC pretended to have a conniption fit over the abortion issue. Better to risk having a pro-life incumbent than pro-choice new blood. Yes...a woman who screams from the highest mountain about a woman's right to choose backs incumbents against abortion.
These people are parasites....that need term limits.

He isn't the worst president that's for sure...but he's nowhere near being one of the best.
Best case scenario...he's a Truman type who is sort of the transition between two eras...and the Ukraine proxy war similar to Korea in the possibility of preventing a bigger conflict by engaging Russia here.
However you slice it...I think he's one and done.
Re: Current Events...
I don’t agree with term limits either. It should be up to the voter — and I think there are way more unqualified people in government who are relatively young than older members. If the voter wants them out, vote.
I honestly don’t see Biden calming anything down. If anything, he’s worse. Just as big of a liar. Trump was about antagonizing the press, Biden has fully pushed progressive social policies, like on the military (we have the lowest enlistment numbers in history under Biden) and continues to tout the “white supremacy” boogie man while ignoring hate crimes have risen against Jews and Asians by black perpetrators, but he doesn’t have the balls to admit it. He can’t take responsibility for anything. There’s been no move to improve healthcare, immigration, or crime, he takes credit for economic growth that’s actually just a Covid rebound — though any president would do that. I’ll always believe he fucked up the Afghanistan withdrawal just so he could make is 9/11 speech.
Biden, imo, is the worst president of my lifetime. This isn’t an endorsement for Trump, btw
EDIT: I’m wrong here, George W. Bush was the worst. Nothing could ever top the horror of the Iraq War

Re: Current Events...
I don’t know if Biden is the worst President in the modern era. It’ll take years if not decades to qualify any claim one way or the other.
But I’ve yet to see anyone provide any metric on how we’re better off in 2023 than we were in 2020 (ignoring COVID). The murder rate has skyrocketed. Progressive DAs are refusing to prosecute and charge, so relying on any other metric related to crime isn’t going to provide you with any kind of accurate bar to measure against. But they can’t sweep homicides under the rug, so it’s the only metric worth a damn if you’re interested in assessing crime.
Inflation is at a record high, and this administration denied its existence for well over a year. I also don’t understand how Biden think it’s helpful to “protest” with the UAW whom is ridiculously demanding a 32 hour work week. Good job dipshits. GM will just fire 90% of you and entirely automate the process. Then the UAW will come crying to the Democrats when they can’t fund their pensions again. The best thing this country could do is ban public sector unions from making political donations with dues. End that charade and the pipeline of easy and “free” money to absurd unionist positions goes away. Follow the money, it’s always about that and never anything else.
The border is an utter fiasco, and so called Sanctuary cities are all of a sudden not that interested in being sanctuaries. Hochul a year ago was giving a media blitz telling everyone how welcoming NY state is to illegal immigrants. Now that they’ve heard her and showed up in the 100s of thousands with no discernible skill and effectively illiterate with their hands out, now she’s balking at her earlier message and telling the illegals to stay out. Biden is so tuned out, he’s again made Harris his border Czar as if she can provide any cover come next year.
To say nothing about his foreign policy actions. The Afghanistan withdrawal was the biggest foreign policy blunder since Vietnam. Biden isn’t a leader on the world stage and has nothing to celebrate as an accomplishment. We’re on the cusp of WW3 , if not a decade of civil war in Eastern Europe. China has gotten bolder, and are relationship with both China and Russia is objectively worse now than it was under Trump. If I’m wrong and overlooking some foreign policy success or how we’re any better off today than in 2020, please correct me.
We also can’t ignore the reality that this administration conspired against and lied to the American people. Biden stood on that debate stage in 2020 and told the American people he had no knowledge or involvement in his son’s business dealings. We now know beyond doubt that’s not true. Biden called into the meetings. All the CIA losers who refused to condemn the Steele Dossier lied again to the American people and told them the Hunter laptop was Russian propaganda. How anyone can believe Biden wasn’t acting in his personal interest when he admittedly withheld foreign aide until the fired the prosecutor investigating the company his family and son were directly profiting from, you can’t make this kind of doublethink up. It truly is Orwellian. To say nothing about the court case moving towards SCOTUS of how Biden and the FBI violated the 1st amendment telling social media companies what ideas to block.
COVID and the lockdowns? The science is out. Unless you were wearing an N95, you were only giving yourself a peace of mind. And even then, unless it was personally fitted and worn perfectly. An N95 you bought off Amazon and put on before you walk in the casino is worthless. The vaccine, we know at this point at best they reduce your personal risk of severe illness. They do nothing to stop contraction or transmission. So the people screaming to “mask up” and those that supported vaccine mandates, there has to be a reconciliation with that. And as Biden chose to be the one mandating those things, he’s the one that needs to answer for it. Again, if I’ve misspoke, please tell me. But please refer to a study released in the past year and one that includes more than a sample size of a hair salon in Nebraska. How many people died from COVID in the US in 2020 without the vaccine and how many died in 2021 with it being free and available to every person? The numbers speak for themselves.
Who the hell knows what will happen next year and over the next 13 months. Biden winning in 2020 and the reality my life hasn’t changed one bit due to whomever is in office just reaffirms in my mind how little influence the President has. The wheels of government (or deep state for those familiar with the actual definition versus the Q Anon bullshit) are gonna keep on turning. Biden, Trump, it doesn’t really matter for 90% of things.
But I am very worried about the domestic state of the US come next November. We saw what happened in 2020 with the billions in damage and dozens killed in violent political protests. We saw how easy it was for a bunch of morons to storm the Capitol and literally saw minutes of footage of Capitol police sitting with their dicks in their hands as rioters illegally entered and roamed the rotunda. What happens when the nut jobs preferred candidate isn’t declared the winner? Pick Trump or Biden, it doesn’t matter. You can point to those on either side willing to hurt others for political beliefs. What if they really get worked up this time?
And what if Russia and China see every American city being burnt while rioters force the President into a bunker with the aim of killing him. And what if Russia or China decide now would be a good time to do “it” because American can’t even keep its citizens from looting every rite aide and footlocker while burning down police stations?
That’s what’s got me worried. Political violence has been normalized if not outright condoned. And there’s going to be consequences for that until people relearn you get shot in the face when you riot, loot, and try to storm police and government buildings.
On topic: I oppose term limits. If we want to pass an amendment limiting the maximum age as we do the minimum, I can get behind that. Though the same problem that plagued Roe and Casey would apply here: eventually technology will negate the medical limitations of the present. But ultimately people get to decide who leads them.
