It explains why they do so little media...they don't want to be called out. Such a shame

Yeah...it's messed up.

It also allows them to never have to explain how the reunion came together, the time span, and any close calls they had in the past 20+ years.

I no longer expect any answers. From the fans perspective, everything will always be in limbo. They have no incentive to ever come clean on any of it.

They're lucky that casual audiences in today's world...which make up the vast majority of ticket buyers...don't care about any of this stuff.

Had this reunion happened 10-15 years ago, the silent act would not have went over well.

I could see that model working for GNR

The model works for everyone but GNR.

They are essentially a second rate Stones with no ambition, a small discography, and incompetent management.

That is not a recipe for forward movement.

When Slash says shit like they don't know how to release an album...I don't think he's exaggerating.

They don't do promo, they're not allowed to discuss songs or say who is on the songs, management admits they don't know what they're doing.....

So what's the point? It's not a genuine second/final act of their careers. It's not like Soundgarden where the plan from day one was to start releasing material.

It's closer to the Eagles and Fleetwood Mac reunions but even those were more productive.

It's a fucked up situation.

just keep doing what they do now, and drop a new song every couple of years into the set

The problem with this strategy is that we're running out of years.

It's not like they don't have access to the people that should know what they're doing though.

I don't get why Axl is so reluctant to record vocals. He has his own studio. Lots of time and breathing space to do things in his own way. You'd think it was more of a hobby than a real job

That's my take on it.

Axl used to take it hyper seriously and have plans to change all of creation with his music. But the pressure of that nearly caused him to kill himself multiple times. So now he just treats it as a hobby that he says whatever to. He does shows for fun cos despite himself he's an artist and likes to perform on some level. It also helps keep the bank balance in the tens of millions which is handy when you kindly look after the people who help you not feel so bad.

Slash is the opposite, he works cos if he had fun he might wind up dead. Fun for him is too dangerous - the only rush he can get without dying is playing and keeping busy so he does that. He had to rejoin the band cos being gone was letting other people shit on his legacy. So he's back and he wants to keep busy, but he's not going to do anything that causes a new blow up. Wasted too many productive years on that drama already.

Duff gets the money side of things and understands how retarded they all were to let the band fall apart before. But lets not do it again.

So here we are, Axl probably wants to release a new album some days but its all a bit much, his priority is staying ok. Slash wants to release a new album but he knows its really Axl's call, and it's not worth starting shit over it. And Duff wants whatever keeps everyone else happy. Thus nothing happens, except when once in a blue moon when Axl feels like doing something, maybe he felt good that day, maybe he read someone ranting that it would never happen and felt like fucking with them, who knows. Lets hope it happens again.
