All the President's Men - This was really good but I hate how there's almost three hours of build up uncovering the conspiracy and they do a 60 second speedrun through the final chapters of Watergate at the end.

I felt cheated.

Watched some episodes of the Alfred Hitchcock hour on Peacock. I don't think this show needed a 60 minute format. The Presents show is superior.

You never saw Network before? Man, you've been missing out.

A type of movie you wonder why it was ever made. They Live you can understand because Carpenter is a wacky independent filmmaker who can do what he wants, but Sidney Lumet was a studio guy, household name. Guess it was just that wild part of the seventies where you were allowed to do anything and even the conservative studio heads were ready to approve it.

Yeah...the 70s were the wild west.

Thank God for that.... because it would never be like that again.

Watching all this old stuff really makes me wish I had experienced that decade as an adult.... instead of being in preschool at the tail end.

The Town - Other than the first half of Gone Girl, this is probably now my favorite Ben Affleck movie.

The Rhythm Section -This had potential but gets ridiculous the further it goes.  Blake Lively delivers a good performance but I couldn't buy turning her into this assassin.

Anyone go see Nope? I don't even know what it's about, but the marketing / TV spots have me intrigued for some reason lol

Kramer vs Kramer - This is one of both Hoffman and Streep's best. Streep plays such a great cold, heartless bitch. It earned its Oscars.

I had one issue with the end of the film. After enduring the custody hearings and all that drama, she (unfairly) wins custody. When Hoffman packs his son's belongings and prepares his son for this new chapter of his life, Streep reveals herself to be the shallow flake that she is...and she no longer wants custody. This revelation...which should lead to a dramatic confrontation...just gets to sit there and it ends with him complimenting her as she goes up the elevator.

Other than that, great film.

While it's getting amazing reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, the reviews from regular people are mixed to say the least.

I'm not interested.

The reviews for Nope are really up and down. I liked Get Out, didn’t love it, but Us was ridiculous. I’ll probably give Nope a chance.

I want to see

I watched Frantic (1988, starring Harrison Ford) last night. I don’t remember if this movie was popular when it was released in the 80’s, but I vaguely remember seeing ads on tv for it about his wife going missing and having to find out what happened to her.

It was a decent thriller, but I thought it could have ended better.

I also watched The Lincoln Lawyer (2021, Matthew McConaughey) last week and that was a pretty good thriller too.

I also saw Thor: Love and Thunder on the weekend, and it was disappointing after the fantastic Ragnarok. Cool to hear four different GN’R songs used throughout the film. But even that couldn’t really save it from being pretty bad.

The Buddy Holly Story - This is one of those movies with a 100% rating.

Busey definitely hits a home run here. IMO it doesn't deserve such a high rating due to how so much of it... including various characters...are fictional.

How can you not include the infamous coin flip or even the plane taking off? It just stops as he's performing.

I almost watched this last week.

The porn thing a bit of a turnoff but it does look good and we're lacking in decent slashers nowadays.

The movie sites I go to have this in HD.

I may have to watch Thief tonight. When I checked Tubi last night, I had a notification about all the movies leaving the platform on the 1st and it's on the list.

David Warner died today. I'm tempted to watch The Omen.

I don't even remember this when I was going through a few of his movies last time. It sounds pretty good.

I've seen Frantic once.  It's set in Paris and has Polanski's girlfriend/companion play a big role.  Her name is Emmanuelle Seignier (I think) and she was in the Ninth Gate.  I really liking it but saw it years ago and don't remember the ending.

The Suspect--Korean fast food thriller film making at it's best.  One of those adrenaline thrillers with non stop stuff happening.  Probably not as interesting a second time around

Shade:  a nice little film made in 2003 with a great cast.  Con movie about gamblers (card players in specific).  Stallone is in this and he is the best thing and I wish he had more scenes in the film.  He plays a different character (or slightly different) from the rest of these cheats.  And I liked him for it.  Melanie Griffith is in this and she's more or less wasted.

Why Don't you just Die?  Russian black comedy in the vein of Coen Brothers or Tarentino.  Really entertaining.  The juice flows freely on this one.

New Year's Evil:  aside from the annoying voice disguise from the villian, this one is pretty good.  I had the villian guessed halfway through it.  It doesn't matter.  I liked the ending sequence too.  It has a 70s feel to it even though it was released in 1980.

Black Phone:  I don't watch much new films at all.  But I loved this .  I enjoyed the period detail.  I will say that if you buy into the story you may enjoy this as much as I did.    There are certain aspects I could see where people could end up not believing and just not enjoy the film based on those reasons.  And I can see that.  But I did enjoy this as it's part supernatural story, part escape story.  One weak part, the motivations for the villian aren't really explained at all which I found kind of strange.
