Re: Absurd
Pretty sure the press panned this song in 01 and now it's getting praised as having "mind-blowing riffs" and as "a frenetic slice of hard rock"
Amazing what difference a top hat makes
It's another aspect of a world without new GNR material.
I was never a big fan of the song either. I flushed the Ron version down the toilet after a couple listens. Noise pollution.
I warmed up to it a bit during the Village leaks.
Now? I'm ready for it to be on a new album.
Will the high school kids start dancing down the hallways while Absurd blares over the speakers?
Time will tell....

Happy as a clam right now. "Inserts Bugs Bunny meme"...I wish us Chinese Democracy fans a very pleasant evening!
(Please play Oh My God with Slash, Duff & 4tus, Axl)
Re: Absurd
I like the "what would I do" line but it kinda doesn't fit the song.
The song is basically about this absurd, delusional woman. That line flips it from this observational rant to a possessive question.
It detracts more than it adds. And I don't mind "Absurd" on repeat as long as they mix it right. It's a club music staple. I'm used to it.

Great observation.
I'd love to see the alternate universe where this got a release in 2000-02.
I agree it probably goes over fairly well in the club/rave environment.
I remember years ago he mentioned it having a new chorus.
I didn't picture "Absurd!...Absurd!..."
We're in a crazy timeline right now.

Re: Absurd
I bet Hardschool will be Thursday or some point next week. Rolling Stone mag and others had covered them playing Silkworms. Granted it is going over like a lead ballon in the comments but it is something
Re: Absurd
This is getting shit tons of media attention...
RS
NME
Billboard
Kerrang
iHeartRadio
GuitarWorldList goes on......
Crazy how everyone starts paying attention when new things get unveiled.
And the press is either neutral or positive.
Clearly the press are ready to give whatever they put out a fair shake, they should capitalise on this buzz and get Hardschool and Absurd out the door as singles plus announce a fall time window for a new record.

The fact that people are talking about it is the real takeaway here....or should be anyways.
Nobody but ticket buyers cared this tour is happening.
Now everyone is covering it.
Axl knew 20 years ago this song is abrasive and even hardcore fans either love it or hate it.
They can't expect 100% positive reviews... especially within hours of it being played for the first time.
As I mentioned before....a portion of the early feedback is shit posting and memes.
I hope management stays away from comments sections right now.
Just stay the course.... whatever that course is....
Re: Absurd
I think it was Goldstein who said play 3 songs a leg and eventually release your album.
Good idea but that timetable is too slow in the modern era, imo.
I think it's a good idea to not bury good press / good will but in my book, you play a new song a show and release it mid-tour.
