Re: Covid 19
What a world we live in.
Spend months wearing masks and gloves going out, shaming people for having the gall to take a walk, shaming people who want it to end, and now we've got riots and looting nationwide thanks to some cops killing a black guy.
Not only is there little shaming of this shit, they're getting a free pass on the lack of masks and social distancing.
What was turning into the crisis of the century may become a faded memory thanks to a new, huge dose of outrage porn.
If they're going to allow all this shit... just open everything back up.
I'm still wearing my mask and gloves. I went shopping earlier. I was in the minority. I looked like an idiot.
The media and the masses have moved on to the next crisis. Like I said....just open it back up and let nature take its course. 1 out of every 10 people now wearing a mask isn't helping jack shit.
When historians look back on this bizarre chapter of our history, they're going to realize we virtually caused a depression for nothing.
The world has gone mad.
Edit:
When I said "for nothing", I didn't mean that the virus isn't serious.... obviously it is.

Plenty of people are still wearing masks where I live...pretty much can't even go to a grocery store or liquor store without them...we were just starting to open up restaurants when shit hit the fucking fan...now they're boarded up.
I'm confused as to what you're saying...are you saying that media shouldn't cover everything that's happening?
I guess I'm just tired of this blaming the media stuff...covid and the riots are related...i still see all my local public officials wearing the masks and doing the social distancing thing.
Re: Covid 19
This isn't even close to over....not even close
Oh it's over. We've already moved on to the next crisis. This new one will perfectly guide us into what's clearly going to be a disaster of an election.
There's no room or time for Corona....so now it's being strategically moved to the back burner and pretty soon (a few weeks tops) you won't hear anything about it at all.

It's getting to be fewer here each day. Today was unbelievable. At this rate it'll be a week or so when I'm the only person wearing a mask here.
are you saying that media shouldn't cover everything that's happening?
Of course the media should cover everything.
That's not how it works anymore. They jump from the latest outrage/trending topic to the next.
Corona will no longer get the coverage it had been getting.

But that makes sense doesn't it? Since Americans don't really want the news...Americans wouldn't watch just, 'the news.'
Re: Covid 19
I certainly want the news. I miss the old days when that's all it was....Brokaw....Rather....Jennings....and CNN was two hosts giving you the world news.
If coverage of this "crisis of the century" can be virtually dropped mid-pandemic to cover the next crisis of the century in three shakes of a lamb's tail....it makes me wonder if it ever warranted that label to begin with.
I think it was handled wrong from day one but I don't know what they should've done...maybe something similar to the swine flu last decade.

I forget where you live, James...btw...good to see you...
I was asked to leave a liquor store a week ago because I forgot my mask...I complied...went home...got it...came back. I was wrong...it wasn't on purpose...I just spaced out.
I have religiously been following the rules without knowing 100% that the theory is accurate. I know my home state of Wisconsin basically said fuck it tho...

I'm going to disagree here with James a little. Depending on where you live, this is still a big deal. Florida just had 1,300 new cases and I think Wisconsin had an uptick in cases the other day.
The guy that has been doing the modeling that I follow said it's basically done. There are some hot spots that flare up, but generally anything you see now is either as a result of more testing, a nursing facility getting hit, or data playing catch up as not all states have been current on their data.
There are so many reasons this has been a clusterfuck in the US from the beginning (I'm not even going to touch the horrible leadership at both the national and state levels), and the biggest is that we've been making decisions without any data and the little bit of data that we did have wasn't complete and certainly wasn't collected consistently across the board. I believe that we have the ability to make good decisions when we have good data, but something goes horribly wrong when we don't.
When you start asking people to guess what might happen and use those guesses to set policy, you're doomed to failure. The right questions weren't asked when looking at what was going on around the world. Yes, a lot of people were dying in places like Italy, but who and why? Didn't matter I guess. I guess it's okay to make life changing decisions for people without having enough information to do so. Logic be damned, we're going to make all decisions based on emotions and fear...and that is exactly why we are where we are now.
Lock up the nursing homes and hospitals. That's what I said in the beginning. When asked what they would do differently in Sweden in retrospect, the answer was protect the nursing facilities better than they did because that's where 50% of their deaths came from. Is there any country where the majority of the deaths weren't from nursing/long term care facilities? Is there any doubt that had we protected them better, the death toll/rate would be much lower? Please tell me there's not a single person that doesn't agree with this.
