That post you pasted exaggerates facts. Beijing and Shanghai have indeed had cases, but not to the extent of other cities. But on the other hand, China enacted incredibly stringent, you might say ruthless, measures to restrict people. Has China fared better than the rest of the world? Probably, but if you believe the intelligence community they are likely fudging the numbers. And besides, they enacted measures that most people in Western countries would never willingly allow.
I like a good conspiracy theory. The X-Files is my all-time favorite series, and I have some fairly wacky conspiracy theories myself, but I'm not sure this is one.

I'm not surprised...it seems like almost everything on Facebook exaggerates facts (I'd argue it's not much different than some of the news media, though they usually share facts that support their agenda and leave out anything that might not). I do believe that the overall point of the exaggerations isn't far off though. This is a problem in society across the board for whatever reason...if you don't exaggerate, it's just not interesting enough to get clicks. I don't blame the media for doing what they do...they are for profit. I wish they just gave all the facts and let people think for themselves, but I don't think we're ever going back to those days (if those days ever really existed...I have my doubts about that too).
I don't believe the numbers coming out of China. There's more to the story than we know (I've been saying this for a while). I don't pretend to know what that is, but eventually everything will come out and I hope they are dealt with appropriately by the entire world, not just the US.

China prolly fudged the numbers but I'd say it's probably not drastically off from US or Italy deaths. (20,000ish)? Maybe like 30k or 40k, but people are out there talking about millions. I don't believe that to be true. I think their # of cases is low due to them not testing for it early & often, and likely only tested seriously ill patients. As Bri said they did have a very militant style lockdown whereas people in the US are against shutdowns & some states remaining relatively open.

I thought we did stop listening to them during Trumps scandals.
Part of the problem is that many people are still only listening to him.

Italian isn't my strong point, but apparently 60 volunteers who thought they'd never suffered COVID-19 gave blood. 40 of them tested positive for antibodies to the virus. Way more people have had the virus than anyone knows; the death rate is going to turn out to be ridiculously low from people that were infected. The more time goes on, the more it looks like I was right and we way overreacted to this.

Nope, try again. They were quarantined and got the virus anyway...just like they would have not quarantining (and thus not ruining the economy). There is absolutely zero evidence that all this sheltering is doing anything to help. Zero. This was all handled backwards. Quarantine the sick. Shelter the at-risk. Let the rest of us live...you cannot prove anything would be any different, so don't embarrass yourself by trying.

Says you...and yet here we are in the same place with ridiculous amounts of people infected and so few dying. Amazing. So we trashed the economy for nothing. Brilliant!

This was going to trash the economy no matter what. This exact thing has been ranted about by libertarians who keep making up these hypotheticals, but still don't realize lots of people stopped going out and businesses closed on their own. The government is giving them an out for their losses that they otherwise wouldn't be able to recover from. Quarantining isn't a guarantee of not getting infected... You still have to go out, you still get food, and you still have to stay hygienic and aware. It's a case of social media randos Monday morning quarterbacking their own opinions that don't need to be proven so they consider themselves "right."
And these measures have helped. Had the numbers spiked any higher with no intervention this would last a lot longer than it will.
We have not overreacted.
