I still don’t get the Trump hate on this. When the WHO said the west shouldn’t cancel flights from China, Trump did. He did it in January. Biden called him Xenophobic for this. Feel free to google it from any source you like.

Europe didn’t and followed the WHO’s advice. Their death rates are higher than ours in all but Germany. Trump ended flights from Europe. Europe bitched and Democrats joined them. Then Europe ended all flights.

Trump couldn’t manifest the required gear and beds for a pandemic no one saw coming. China lied and continues to lie. And Trump was ahead of the WHO.

Where we fucked up is with testing. The WHO organization had a test generated from some European country (apologies for not remembering), that the CDC didn’t want to adopt and thought they could do better. But the CDC fucked up their trials and lost weeks. I don’t know how Trump gets blamed for this, but if you want something concrete in comparison, this is it.

Yes, he was overly optimistic. Just like 4 weeks ago DeBlassio was telling New Yorkers not to change anything and all was good. Cuomo and  Newsom have praised Trump’s support.

I’ve been asking for weeks for examples of what we should be doing. I haven’t seen anything yet. Trump and Mnuchin asked for a stimulus before Congress jumped. It’s final death rate is probably going to be closer to the flu.  We have a 2% mortality rate as of today with known cases. Everyone agrees the actual amount of infected is many more than the 215k known cases as of this post. Some argue magnitudes more. So the actual mortality rate is actually lower than its public amount, which is the 2nd best in the world.

Now Biden wants to talk strategy with Trump?  Why?  So he can go on CNN that night and trash Trump since Biden and the nomination have been erased from the public conscious.

I’m just asking those criticizing Trump to provide specifics, and reconcile that to his actions in January through March versus some news conferences where he intentionally made the situation more optimistic than it was.

I can't come up with examples of what we should have done...I'm not qualified to have that opinion. All I know is that publicly...and repeatedly, Trump blew this shit off...now whether or not he was taking this seriously behind the scenes is a different story. We'll never really know that...

He cut off travel from China on Feb. 10? Europe March 10?

I just know he publicly said repeatedly that this was no big deal. Even now...it doesn't seems as though he has any grasp of this...Did he or did he not disband the pandemic team? He needs to own that now.

It's times like this the president should have an 80 plus approval rating. George W. Bush certainly did after 9/11.

Kick my ass on economics....no one can argue the numbers on that except for the deficit. Trump was here to puff up the economy with every trick in the book he could muster. There is nothing about him that says he's qualified for this difficult moment.

I do blame Trump for not being prepared for stuff that money can buy. If nothing else...money buys production of medical necessity equipment. I don't even see him doing this now.

Bolton cut them, but you got to take responsibility for your crew. In Bolton's defense, it really did nothing that would have prevented this situation. Our stockpiling and preparation falls on all our past presidents. And China was taking all our medical supplies because we were dumb enough to get it from them. That's where it all went.

I'm pretty impressed how companies are jumping in and making this stuff. We need to stop depending on China making this shit from here on out.

I'm not sure how it falls on past presidents...we're stuck in this predicament where we want cheap shit and we want high paying jobs.

btw...the production of some of this medical equipment has severe health consequences in the communities they're creating in...irony for ya.

Anyone worried about what the stimulus will do to an already terrible deficit?

I assume this just means more borrowing from China, right?

What do you want mitch?  You want to have everyone sit at home and completely destroy the economy potentially for years at the same time?  Something has to give...since you've been firmly in the stay at home crowd, you can't have it all.

Why are you never grounded in any sort of reality and living these pipe dreams that sound so good on paper but never work in reality?  Fair question given this question and your Bernie love.  Yes, we'd all love people to stay at home for 6 months, then the economy is just reset and everything there is fine.  We'd all love that, but that's not based in reality.  We'd love a society where everybody has plenty and nobody ever needs anything, but that's not based in reality either.

???

I have no idea what this means. Surely you see irony in borrowing from China to handle a crisis that originated in China.

Are you suddenly a nationalist, Mitch?  You know Trump ran on returning manufacturing back home after 30 years of exporting it. Are you on his side now, or are you still asking for every 3rd world economic migrant to be handed a welfare check and a democratic ballot?  You can’t have it both ways.

Who is having it both ways?

The stimulus (or at least the first phases) are done. The government can’t pay its current bills let alone the stimulus.

Show me evidence that Trump brought any manufacturing jobs back here. After all that bluster and trade war...we’re back where we’ve always been. Diminishing manufacturing jobs and a farming industry that took it on the chin for this war.

There’s a lotta socialism going on right now.

You have no idea what this means?  It means that you have a choice...either keep people home and have a stimulus to spark the economy or you send people back to work.  You can't keep people home and not do a stimulus...that option doesn't exist in reality.

This is exactly what I was talking about since the beginning...now you're starting to see it (hopefully; the alternative is you're just being a dick).  Is the cost of keeping people home worth the gain?  I believe the jury is still out on that one...

I don't really care how they address the stimulus issue as long as they do and it bails out the people as much as it does the corporate side.  Eventually we'll just go bankrupt on China anyway and there's not much they can do about it.

Ok, that last line is just being snarky.
