True...but it's not baseless speculation.
The Village sessions are the 99-00 shit n shaboodle so basically every song title mentioned in that period is represented here in some capacity.
I suppose it could be neither...but that's a lot of coincidences and would also require another song with a similar theme... which I find highly unlikely.
Various song descriptions may not match and as far as Brain's descriptions, and I mean no offense to him, I always found them a bit suspect.
He seemed to like trolling hardcore fans who emailed him back in the day and IMO would call into question the seriousness of the comments.

The Ides of March of thing is interesting. The 7th and the 15th of the month were the nones and the ides of the month, so there could be a link there.
You do recall the famed saying, 'Beware the ides of March', which was reputedly told to Caesar just before his assassination.
Funny enough, Circus Maximus and Brain's quip about Ben-Hur sampling for The General stack up the Ancient Rome references in Axl's work.
Maybe he wanted the other disc to reflect that, a charade of a republic hiding a dictator - to drive out a political point that both extremes are bad, or some such.

Yeah one called 100 Cuban Skies about cigars... weird right? Showed me about 8 demos in his Ferrari - what a strange night - told me all about Rhiad and the Bedouins and what it was about... we talked about Izzy and his work ethic, Slash, Shannon Hoon... he was by himself and two buddies and I sat at his table at a bar called Sharkeys... the reason he invited us to sit with him is because I had heard The Blues (street of dreams) on a rock in rio 2002 bootleg - I asked about it and he was impressed I knew it
And maybe some of them are there under different titles.

I saw a movie called Ides of March in 2011.
since some of the songs on the rough mixes date to march 2000 ides of march references to 15th of march maybe the song was given that name considering someone in the studio knew it was the date of ides of march?

I think that would be chalked up as mere coincidence if anything.
I mean....it was already titled Circus Maximus at that point and even though studio time appeared to be sporadic, I doubt any specific dates were singled out for any reason.
Off topic but I'd like to know which tracks if any were recorded in the chicken coop while porn is playing in the background and the scent of dog shit is in the air.
I always thought Bucket was just taking the piss at that point with the absurdity of it all and it wasn't serious but it obviously happened and it makes you wonder if anything productive came out of it.

my theory was it was ides of march until about mid to late 00 it was renamed circus maximus cause circus maximus dates to november 00 so who knows?

The timeline is screwy with this track(amongst others).....
It was being referred to as Ides of March after 2000. The Village sessions were the first indication it had ever been called anything else...which is why some believe they're separate tracks.

yeah i only think circus was only ever meant to be a jam song they even played it in 2007 so the amount of jams they have done and we probably don't even know that are studio recordings so yeah it's really exciting to analyse these tracks and do digging from old bootlegs it actually makes my free time worth it
