April ya see. Take what they are saying with a pinch of salt. Recording has happened, and is happening.
Obviously, the band don't have a good track record, but at least the intention is there for now
So what exactly is that meant to mean...? Are they NOT recording new Guns music?

Sure they are, and have recently, it seems. Axl only works under the Guns banner.
Just that, lot of recording happened in '98-'02, without an album for another six years.
Recording music and releasing it are two different stories with this band, as you well know.

New material is being worked on.

New material is being worked on.
That begs the question, whether it's new or new like CD2.
Can also be both. Slash and Duff can punch up rockers for Ax to tinker with. On the other hand, Ax has a lot of creative energy and effort invested in the CD2 material, which he would like to release eventually.

With regard to CD2 material, I don’t think they’d use much. And if they did, they would probably rewrite a bunch. Find it hard to believe they would release songs with writing credits to Finck/Huge/Bucket/Stinson/Pittman and not Slash/Duff. Money has been a keen focus for this version of GNR.
At a minimum, the return single would have to be a new, original tune with the current lineup.
